Customers left 'vomiting' after eating at Chinese restaurant closed down when 'roasted duck' found to be street pigeon

Police described the smell in the kitchen as 'almost unbearable'

In a story that has left many people totally disgusted, a Chinese restaurant was recently forced close after the ‘roasted duck’ turned out to be street pigeon.

Police officers described the scene as ‘unbearable’ as Jin Gu in Madrid’s Usera district was raided and found bowls full of the birds that had been plucked and roasted.

And it turns out customers have claimed they were left ‘vomiting’ from the food there previously, while locals say ‘no one ate there’.

Sure, adventurous eaters might be happy to try anything, but if you think you’re eating one specific thing, then it’s that specific thing you want.

Officials are now working under the assumption that these pigeons were snatched off of the street while it’s not clear quite how long Jin Gu had been serving up the shocking substitution.

Having been shut down with the owners placed under investigation, the restaurant still holds a 4.2 star rating on Google based off of 419 reviews.

In one of the large number of one star reviews, a user wrote three months ago that they absolutely ‘do not recommend’ the place as it left them unwell.

“The food is horrible,” they claimed in a translated post. “My family ate there and everyone vomited the next day, there is some food that is rotten and we have contacted the restaurant and they say absurd things.

“The food there is very dirty, I have seen inside the kitchen and I see that the floor is dirty. Horrible kitchen, it is like seeing a landfill.”

A picture attached to their review appears to show what would be a roasted duck.

Another review claimed that a part from a few ‘who didn’t eat much’, ‘everyone else started to have vomiting and diarrhoea’ later in the night after eating.

One simply wrote: “Bad, bad, really bad,” as others called it ‘horrible’.

Officers who raided Jin Gu last month came across sights that echo some of these claims as there was unlabelled meat and fish kept in freezers without thermometers to monitor the temperature.

The kitchen was littered with rat traps as well as a number of illegal items like sea cucumbers.

One shelf was apparently hiding a room infested with cockroaches while staff stored ingredients in a toilet.

"Everything smelled of rotten seafood," a police officer told The Times. "It was almost unbearable."

Police look to charge the restaurant owners with public health crimes as well as animal cruelty and consumer violation charges.
