Phrases such as 'Make Do and Mend' or 'Dig for Victory' became ubiquitous across Britain during World War Two as a shortage of supplies on the home front meant that living with limited resources became part of daily life.
Nowadays, it's impossible to imagine surviving off ration coupons and following wartime blackouts, but, if one war expert is to be believed, you may have to say goodbye to unlimited internet and next day delivery should the UK ever head to war with Russia.
As things stand, relations between Russia and the west aren't looking too fine and dandy at the moment, with Vladimir Putin's decision to invade Ukraine in 2022 leaving the Eurasian nation rather isolated on the world stage.

The Russian leader has finally signalled his willingness to hold peace talks with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while also continuing to fire missiles at the nation, for this first time since the start of the war.

His U-turn comes after US officials floated the idea of abandoning their goal to secure peace in Ukraine within 'days' should a deal not be reached.
But what would happen in a hypothetical scenario were attempts at securing peace fail and the continent slides into all-out war?
Well, according to University of Buckingham's Professor Anthony Glees, it'll be pretty grim for Brits. The professor has made no secret of his dire predictions regarding how the UK would fare if the tanks began rolling.

In his latest interview with The Mirror, Professor Glees has claimed war with Russia would see Putin 'turn out the lights' on Britain's power. The professor suggested that Russian forces could target the subsea Langeled pipeline, which supplies the nation with a significant amount of gas, and leave will all scrabbling around using the torches from our phones.
Energy wouldn't be the only target of Russia's either, with essentials such as food and medicine coming under threat of severe rationing. Glees also stated that we'd all be heading to and from work on foot as well, with petrol and diesel being 'virtually unobtainable.'
"Although we would hope the EU would continue to supply us with food, we would have to rely on the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, especially if much of Western Europe were to fall under Russian control," he said.

"We would quickly see a black market for home-produced food and clothing."
However, it's not all doom and gloom, as Glees's predictions would need Russia to sweep through Europe like a well oiled machine; which would be a big ask, considering that Putin's forces have only managed to annex around 20 percent of Ukraine after three long and bloody years of war.
The above also hinges on the conflict being a conventional war, as the conflict could be over pretty quickly if things went nuclear.
