Antonio Brown’s dramatic mid-game walk off is likely to have cost him a lot of money.
In case you missed it, Brown, who plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whipped off his jersey and shoulder pads, threw his undershirt into the crowd; and then began gesturing to the crowd before heading down the tunnel and back to the locker-room part way through the third quarter of his team’s game against the New York Jets.
Brown was reportedly left fuming over a conversation by one of the team’s staff while he was on the sidelines.
At the time of his walk-off, Tampa Bay were trailing 24-10, but finished victorious on 28-24 after a last-minute 93-yard drive from Tom Brady.
His walk-off sent NFL fans into overdrive last night, with clips of the incident shared online - and it’s likely that the walk-off will hit Brown hard in the pocket with him missing out just shy of a million dollars in potential bonuses.
According to Michael Ginnitti, editor of Sportrac, Brown needed to make just eight more catches to earn himself a $333,333(£246,614) bonus; 55 receiving yards to bag himself another $333,333 bonus and one receiving touchdown from yet another $333,333 bonus.
According to the Daily Mail, he’ll also miss out on a $52,941 (£39,162) bonus for not playing for the Carolina Panthers.
Ginnitti also warned that he could be facing a $5,150 fine for uniform violation.
And all of that isn’t enough, Buccaneers’ head coach Bruce Arians has also said Brown is no longer a part of the team.
Speaking after the game, Arians said: "He is no longer a Buc.
"That is the end of the story, Let's talk about the guys who went out there and won the game."
While Brady urged people to show empathy and compassion.
He said: “That's obviously a difficult situation. We all love him and care about him deeply.
"I think everyone should be compassionate and empathetic toward some very difficult things.
"I think everybody should do what they can to help in ways that he really needs it.
“We want to see him be at his best and unfortunately it won't be with our team.
"We have a lot of friendships that will last. I think everyone should be very compassionate and empathetic toward some very difficult things that are happening."
