Raised in Canberra, the tennis player was interested in sports from an early age and originally played basketball as well before he decided to focus on tennis exclusively from the age of 14 onwards. He made his junior debut in 2008 at the age of 13 and went pro in 2012, playing his first-round qualifying match at the 2012 qualifying open.
The star’s tennis skills on the pitch has led to him winning seven ATP tour singles titles, including the 2019 and 2022 Washington Open. He’s also reached eleven major finals, including at Wimbledon in 2022 and a Masters 1000 final at the 2017 Cincinnati Masters.
Despite all his success, Nick surprisingly does not have a coach after trying many throughout his career but not managing to find one that felt like a good fit. In 2017, he told the New Yorker: “Every coach I had tried to tame me, tried to make me play more disciplined, tried to make me do drills. I’ve just been kind of playing on instinct. I feel like it’s been successful, so I don’t know why there’s a good reason to stop that.”
The money the player has made through competitions and endorsements has meant he’s got plenty of cash spare to spend on property. In 2022, he splashed $1.6 million AUD (£940,000) on a luxury penthouse in Sydney where he lives with girlfriend Costeen Hatzi. He’s also thought to own a house in his home city of Canberra as well as a luxury holiday home in The Bahamas.
