Nick Kyrgios Rages About 'Drunk' Fan Putting Him Off During Wimbledon Final

Nick Kyrgios Rages About 'Drunk' Fan Putting Him Off During Wimbledon Final

Nick Kyrgios faces Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon men's tennis final today

Nick Kyrgios lost his temper with a ‘drunk’ fan during his Wimbledon men's singles final against Novak Djokovic.

The Australian, who is known for his combative nature and frequent on-court outbursts, became involved in back and forth with the crowd during the third set, eventually taking his concerns about one spectator to the umpire. You can watch what happened below:

Kyrgios, playing in his first ever Grand Slam final, took umbrage when a crowd member shouted between his first and second serves, claiming that it nearly affected his performance.

He told the umpire: "There's no other bigger occasion and they did it again and it nearly cost me the point.”

Then, he added: "She's [the shouting spectator is] drunk out of her mind so kick her out.

"I know exactly who it is - she's the one who looks like she's had about 700 drinks."

So far, the final remains delicately poised, with the Kyrgios taking the first set 4-6, before Djokovic responded by taking the second.

Djokovic capitalised on the unsettling of his opponent to win the third set, which Kyrgios spent much of arguing with his box.

This is far from the first time that Kyrgios has attracted controversy with his on-court behaviour.

In fact, it’s not even the first time this tournament that he’s found himself in trouble.

In the first week of the UK’s biggest tennis event, the Aussie and his opponent, Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas, were both fined for their conduct.

Kyrgios – the world number 45 – was fined £3,300 for an audible obscenity, whereas his opponent was fined £8,250 for unsportsmanlike conduct, which included hitting two balls into the direction of the crowd.

The two then carried on their dispute into the press box, exchanging barbs right in front of the world’s tennis journalists.

Kyrgios, 27, was also fined £8,200 for another incident at the end of his first-round match against the British player Paul Jubb.

Despite that, the Australian has played his best Grand Slam tournament to date and was dealt a slice of luck when an injury forced perennial Grand Slam finalist and tennis great Rafael Nadal out of their semi-final before a ball had been struck in anger.

It remains to be seen whether he can keep his composure to win his maiden Grand Slam title, or if his Serbian opponent Djokovic – unlikely to be shaken out of his stride by Kyrgios’ antics – will take home his 21st major title.
