Maybe you’re a ‘like, like, like’ chatter or an ‘ermmmmm’ before every sentence speaker.

Or perhaps you often find yourself clearing your throat before you start talking.

So, while those kinds of things often happen because we’ve simply just developed it out of habit - whether we like it or not - a body language has explained the background of one them.

Adrianne titles herself as a ‘body language expert’ on TikTok where she shares videos explaining the meanings of the things many of us do daily.

And while she said it can of course ‘be for medical reasons’, she explained what clearing your throat before talking really means.

The expert demonstrated the all too familiar big clear of a throat before entering the start of a sentence.

She then explained: “Sometimes it can mean that someone’s got something they want to say, so they want to create an opening to say what they want to say.”

BODY LANGUAGE EXPERT EXPLAINS SIGN SOMEONE IS LYING

But she added that it can be a bit more of an indicator of how a person is feeling in that moment or the feelings they might have about the topic of chat.

“It can be that the words are getting stuck in their throat,” Adrianne explained.

“Because they want to say it but there’s nerves or there’s hesitation, or there’s some reason why those words are getting stuck in their throat.”

Or it might be an indicator that the person perhaps isn’t being totally honest with you - so it’s worth keeping an ear out for it in conversation if you’re a bit suss of what’s going on with your pal.

The body language expert continued: “It can even be when somebody is going to say something and they don’t fully believe it too.

“So, listen out for the [throat clearing sound].”

For plenty of viewers, this is all too familiar as one wrote: “Hahaha! My ex-husband would do this every time just before he’d tell a lie. He got furious when I pointed it out, he had no idea he was doing it!”

Another added they know people who do it when they get ‘nervous or anxious’ as others said: “Usually it means an excuse or a lie is coming in my opinion.”

And many did joke that a throat clear means it’s ‘pollen season’ for them as someone else put: “I’m just a smoker.”

Along with her advice, Adrianne did encourage: “Remember, always ask yourself, ‘What else can this mean?’ When you see it or hear it in an interaction.”
