Expert says you might be a sex addict if you consistently do one activity

The counsellor has highlighted one activity that could signal that you're a sex addict if you do it compulsively

An expert has explained how you may be a sex addict, with there being one behaviour above all that is the ultimate tell-tale sign.

In the past, sex and relationship experts have weighed in on things that could signify that you're an sex addict and how to rectify it.

Some sex addicts have shared heartbreaking stories, which have taken major life events to get them to try and quit their bad habit.

But if you are unsure on what determines a sex addict, there is apparently one very easy way to identify it.

Social media user Evan the Counsellor is a self described 'Mental Health & Addiction Clinician' that makes content around drinking, sex and mental health issues, aiming to offer advice to his over one million followers.

One of his TikTok videos addressed sex addiction, as he answered a viewer's question, which read: "Is sex addiction real and if so, what does it look like?"

Evan notes that there is a lot of controversy around it in the mental health community, as even though it is not a substance, addiction to it can be treated and looked at as similar.

On the other hand, he says that some see it as more natural, instead as a 'compulsive behaviour'.

"At the end of the day, they're really just arguing over a language, and they would both agree that people do struggle with compulsive sexual behaviours," he stated.

Evan then highlighted the behaviour that could mean that someone is addicted to sex, explaining that it's 'people who compulsively watch porn'.

"With sex addiction, there is this element of societal and religious shame

that really fuels people sexual compulsivity and acting out," he said.

The counsellor added: "Where a lot of times, if that wasn't there, they could take more sex positive approach, they wouldn't struggle in the same way."

That's the behaviour to look out for - though it should be noted that he said that it's for those that do it compulsively, where it is almost out of your control.

He also added that there are two groups of people that he 'most commonly' sees with sexual compulsivity, revealing: "You get a lot of married guys,

usually guys, who end up cheating on their wives or compulsively seeking out sex workers."

The next group according to the content creator is also touched on: "Another one is LGBT men who get caught up in the hook up culture and often pair sexual acting out with methamphetamine abuse."

Sex addiction can, of course, present differently for different people and if you need help with sex addiction you can call Help 4 Addiction on 0203 955 7700.
