So, who better than a body language expert to outline the main tell-tale signs of a liar?
Adrianne Carter, a social media content creator with hundreds of thousands of followers, has made a viral video explaining how you can tell if someone is lying, and it's easier than it seems.
So, here are the definitive ways you can tell a liar from someone who is being truthful, according to an expert in the subject.
Changes in behaviour
It may seem quite vague at first, but Carter explained how this is something that is easy to spot.

"Those changes in behaviour could be something like someone who is fidgeting, and then stops fidgeting," she said, pointing out that someone who does the opposite is also a giveaway.
Facial expressions
The expert advised to look out for these in someone as they 'give so much away'.

She added: "Particularly look out for when someone says something, but their expressions doesn't match what they've said."
Adrianne used the phrase 'I'm really frightened' as an example, pointing out that if someone isn't really showing that they're scared through their facial expressions, it's an easy sign.
"When the emotions and the words matches, it's all good, when the emotion and the words don't match, then there's a problem," she highlighted.
Blink rate
You'll want to pay attention to this detail, especially if you're someone who isn't particularly a fan of eye contact.

"Another giveaway from signs of lying is when someone's blink rate increases - now it's not that if someone starts blinking loads they are a liar, that's not what it means," Adrianne said.
"What it means is when someone blinks loads, the stress levels have gone up - if they're innocent and they're telling the truth, why has their blink rate gone up?"

Crossed arms
It's something a lot of people do while standing up, and the body language expert acknowledged that it isn't a straight sign of lying.

"Sometimes in some contexts, remember context is always king, the arms crossed can be a defensive behaviour and also a self-protective behaviour, so be watching for those signs," Adrianne noted.
She also said that if someone isn't crossing their arms and then they do cross their arms while having a 'set' facial expression and 'moody looking', it's a sign that they've gone defensive.
