One man had his proposal plans ruined after he decided to play a prank on his girlfriend, and her reaction was not what he anticipated.
Proposing to someone is one of the most daunting things you may have to do in your life.
From planning the whole thing out and getting the right ring, to preparing a romantic speech or even having the nerve to go through with it all, there's a lot to consider.

You are essentially giving the rest of your life to this person, which will be celebrated with a declaration of love - or a wedding, as most people call it.
Your only hope is that you don't end up embarrassed or rejected after all of your preparation, but you'd think it'd work out if you're going through all the trouble for one person, after all.
Again, that is your only hope.

However, one person has shared their horror experience on social media, giving a very brief explanation that is enough to make the average person cringe with embarrassment.
Other users felt sorry for the man, but it did provide people with a potential test that they can use on their partner to see if they're ready to answer the big question.
The viral post, which clocked up over 1.4 million views on X, read: "Took g/f to Venice, planning to propose to her. But first I thought I'd pull a prank where I pretend to get down on a knee to propose, but it's actually to tie my shoe.
"I did this and my g/f's reaction was 'oh thank God, I thought you were going to propose'. Didn't propose."

Some users felt like he should have found out where she stood in terms of marriage beforehand.
One commented: "That would be your exact moment to talk about that - why is communication such an alien concept to some people?"

Another said: "I don’t understand people proposing without talking about getting married first…"
Others advised him to call it quits, with one person putting: "If a woman says no to a proposal, the relationship is over sooner or later. Keeping options open, non committal."
A different user bluntly wrote: "Dump her immediately."
While someone else thought that it was a good way to sniff your significant other out, writing: "This is actually a life hack for everyone here."
