Furious mum insisting babysitter pays for 'emotional damage' after feeding vegetarian kids chicken nuggets

The babysitter was put in a very awkward position.

A furious mum wanted her babysitter to pay for 'emotional damage' after feeding her vegetarian children chicken nuggets.

Taking to Reddit, the nanny revealed that she was screamed at for feeding this woman's children 'dead corpses', in the form of a nugget meal.

At the time, she was babysitting a nine-year-old and a seven-year-old, who asked her if they could have chicken nuggets, completely oblivious to the fact they were vegetarians.

"The mom came home early and saw her children eating chicken nuggets," the babysitter explained in a now-deleted Reddit post from 2020.

"She literally ripped the nuggets out of their hands and started screaming that I'm horrible for allowing her children to eat dead corpses and yelling at her children for eating the meat."

She claims the mum 'kicked her out' without paying her for the babysitting and then later received an angry message from the mother demanding that the babysitter fork out $300 (£226) per kid for 'emotional damages' and even threatened her with court action.

However, the babysitter stressed she wasn't aware of the kids' dietary requirements.

She added: "If I was aware I would have not fed them meat. I had babysat for vegetarians before and made sure to respect their vegetarian diet."

The babysitter found a lot of support on Reddit, with most agreeing it was the mum's responsibility to tell the sitter her kids didn't eat meat - some even argued the woman should go back to the woman and demand she's paid what she's owed for the babysitting.

One person wrote: "It was her responsibility to tell you her kids were vegetarian. She still owes you money for babysitting.

"I'd be willing to bet she has pulled this stunt before to get out of paying and maybe try to get some extra cash.

"I find it weird that neither kid mentioned they didn't eat meat and they wanted a happy meal."

Another added: "The parent has the responsibility to tell you about dietary restrictions. Just like if the child had a peanut or tree nut allergy.

"Even though vegetarianism is growing worldwide nobody assumes you're a vegetarian.

"The kids told you they wanted chicken nuggets, you didn't just give it to them."

But a third suggested the sitter learn from the incident, writing: "In the future, if you continue working in childcare, make sure you always check about dietary restrictions when you started with a new family.

"Ask up front if they have any allergies, or anything they're not allowed to eat.

"Also get some suggestions from the parents for what it's okay to feed the kids."
