A horrified dog groomer ‘violently sobbed’ after seeing the state of the dog they were treating.
Typically when you take your pooch to the groomers it might be for a bit of a trim, or perhaps a bath because it gets far too messy trying to wash them properly at home.
But this two-year-old had never seen a professional groomer in his life – and certainly needed more than just a bit of a cut and and a rinse.

The groomer took to Reddit to share pictures of the thick-furred dog who looked unrecognisable by the time it was finished with. “I have never sobbed so violently while doing a dog before,” they wrote.
“Tick infested, ear infections, hematomas but luckily not a single cut and most of the ticks were dead. Pelted matting and still was the sweetest boy.”
Photos show big matted sections of the pup’s curly fur and even one showing the thick layer practically being pulled off like an old carpet.

Another image shows a load of little creepy crawlies collected into a bowl, as he groomers hold up the huge length of the dog’s coat that it was freed from.

And in a final photo, the dog almost looks half its original size with much, much shorter and cleaner fur and a little wagging tail.
The professional groomer explains that the dog’s ‘eyes were so dull and he was moving so slow and restricted’.

However: “The second that rug came off he acted like an entirely new dog.”
They added that the only ‘humane way’ to get the matted hair off is to shave the pup and leaving certain matting can ‘become life threatening’.
Understandably, a lot of users were worried for the dog and the groomer explained: “They [the owners] got him at a four-month-old puppy and were not aware of the oat maintenance since they’ve always had goldens.”
They added that home grooming hadn’t worked out for them but their ‘biggest fear’ was taking him to the groomers, ‘being judged and having him taken away’.

However, they ‘risked it and are super grateful’, with the groomer adding: “He’s starting on a schedule after today!”
Assuring that the owners definitely ‘love’ their dog, the professional said: “Just simply a case of bad breeders and mis-educating. “And yeah, the smell coming off him was absolutely horrific.”
As many questioned why they hadn’t been reported, the groomer explained: “It’s against our corporate policy to report a ‘neglect case’ if the dog was already taken care of. If they come in with him in this condition again, or I don’t see him for over 2/3 months, then I can make a call.”
Just like it is your own, it’s vital to look after your dog’s hygiene.
