If you're in a relatively new relationship, you may be wondering how to tell if the new person you're dating is a good-for-nothing cheat or not.
Well, wonder no more, as a team of private investigators have done all the dirty work and uncovered the five signs that could indicate that your partner might be cheating on you.
Based in Australia, these private investigators go by the name 'Down Under Investigations' and posted a video on TikTok to explain all the tell-tale signs.

They aren't new to exposing cheaters though, as they have previously caught suspected people in the past.
The viral clip is titled 'top five signs you've got a cheater on your hands', posted under the handle @downunderinvestigations.
Without further ado, here are the five signs:
Lying
Not a surprise to anyone who has been cheated on in the past, and nothing shocking out of the blocks.

They explained: “They lie about big things and small things.”
Being 'excessively defensive'
If they become overly defensive during conversations, it may be a sign that your partner is hiding something from you.

And it could be their infidelity.
Gaslighting
A pretty big one here and a relatively new term in the grand scheme of things.
Gaslighting can be described as when someone attempts to get you to question yourself, your own reality or memories by claiming that you are wrong or have remembered something incorrectly.

Turning the tables
Next up, the private investigators then warned that cheaters might attempt to flip the odds on you and accuse you of cheating.
This can happen if you start to get paranoid or ask questions when they give vague answers.
A history of cheating
You’re probably familiar with the expression a leopard doesn’t change its spots, right?

According to the team, a history of cheating is as obvious a sign you can get.
They then asked their followers if they had any other signs they thought pointed towards a cheater and were soon flooded with responses.
One person said: “Sudden interest in their own appearance and weight.”
To which the team replied: “Totally agree! New clothes, obsession with perfume/aftershave, more time showering and washing own clothes.”
Someone else said: “When they guard their phone like the FBI," prompting Down Under Investigations to reply: “Very true! ‘What are you hiding?’”
In another comment, the team said ‘the phone behaviour changing is a very big sign’ before adding some specifics to look out for including ‘messaging late at night, taking phone everywhere’.
Earlier this year, anthropologist and author of Untrue, Wednesday Martin, claimed that new research revealed women are more likely to cheat than men.
During an interview with news.com.au, she said newer data was showing that the idea of women finding it easier to ‘partner for life’ wasn’t true.
She said: "The new research is correcting false notions that women have lesser libidos, that women are more naturally monogamous and that it’s easier for women to partner for life.
"Women don’t like sex less [than men] - but they do get bored of sexual sameness."
