The internet really is the gift that keeps on giving, as over on TikTok, users have discovered yet another piece of vital travel advice you may want to keep in mind next time you rock up to a hotel.

One hotel manager on the platform has warned people exactly why you should never trust complimentary bottles of shampoo and shower gel in your hotel bathroom - and the reason is pretty grim.

Instead, the pro has offered some helpful alternatives on what to use and do instead.

The woman, who goes by the handle 'Traveling Hotel Manager', took to TikTok to share the travel tip.

The hotel manager warned against using hotel shampoo and shower gel.

"Hey y'all, it's your traveling hotel manager," she began.

She then walked into the hotel bathroom and showed three large screw-top pump dispenser bottles.

"When you check into your room and you go into your shower and you see these, these are usually full size. We have shampoo, conditioner and body wash," she continued.

"Here's your tip. Don't ever use these. Why? Because they're not secure."

She went on to show a demonstration of just how easy it is to unscrew the pump lid of the bottles before saying: "These can come off and the previous guests can put anything they want in there.

"They can put hair color, bleach, anything in these. Don't ever use these."

The woman claimed she 'always' brings her own shampoo and shower gel when traveling for this exact reason.

"I always bring my own when traveling," she added. "If you don't bring your own, always call down to the front desk and ask for a fresh set or even the mini ones."

"Don't ever ever use these," the hotel manager reiterated for a final time to really hammer the point, "trust me."

Guests could tamper with the bottles and put 'anything' in there.

People have also been warned by another person in the hotel biz to never leave your toothbrush out in the bathroom.

Former hotel manager Melissa Hanks has been sharing TikTok videos of her travel advice and has responded to a user who said: "Also keep your toothbrush in your suitcase NOT ON YOUR BATHROOM COUNTER", with a video sharing some grim truth.

The American wrote in the caption: "I have heard that this happens. I have personally never seen it. It is definitely NOT okay to do this."

She explains in the video: "Here is why you should not be rude to hotel staff or act like a total Karen your entire stay.

"Now full disclaimer, I’ve never done things like this and I would have definitely fired staff if I found out that they had done this."

Melissa went on to reveal the gross warning: "When turning your room while you’re staying at a hotel, I have heard that housekeepers who clean certain areas in bathrooms that you don’t want to have near your mouth.

"Keep your toothbrush packed away just to avoid any kind of situation like this."

Yikes.
