It can be hard to find anything good about January, when the weather is still miserable and we don't have Christmas to look forward to, but thankfully Wetherspoon has got our backs.

At a time when we're all skint from buying presents, handing over our cards in exchange for an unnecessary amount of shots at the Christmas party and funding typically underwhelming New Year's Eve plans, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

That light is the one hovering over a Wetherspoon bar.

In a few short days, the pub chain will be slashing its prices on both food and drink items to help ensure customers have a warm place to turn for a drink during the cold, dark nights.

At more than 560 of the pubs, the price for a pint of Ruddles Best or a bottle of Beck's will start at just 99p, as will a 25ml measure of Bell's whiskey and a variety of soft drinks.

Due to licensing laws in Scotland and Wales, the real ale on offer will cost £1.10 a pint.

You'll also be able to get your hands on a pint of Bud Light, Stowford Press Dark Berry Cider or Stowford Press Apple Cider for £1.69 a pint, while Carlsberg will be on sale at £1.99 a pint and Guinness at £2.89 a pint.

If you want something to line your stomach, you'll also be able to tuck in to both breakfast and dinner items at cheaper prices throughout the sale, which runs from 3 January to 17 January.

Food on offer at 640 of the company’s pubs includes MOMA porridge (£1.49), as well as the breakfast muffin deal (£1.99) and the breakfast wrap deal (2.49), both of which include coffee, tea or hot chocolate and are served until 11.30am each day.

Later in the day you can enjoy a 3oz burger served with chips and soft drink, which will set you back £4.49.

Tim Martin, Wetherspoon founder and chairman, noted that department stores and shops hold their sales in January, making it the 'perfect time to have a sale in the pub too'.

"The range of drinks and food on sale in the pub is aimed at suiting a wide variety of tastes. This year we have included our biggest selection of low and non-alcoholic drinks.

"I believe that the January Sale will prove popular with our customers. As always, staff at the pub will serve customers responsibly," he said.

The full list of drinks in the sale includes draught beers and ciders - Carlsberg, Bud Light, Guinness, Stowford Press Dark Berry Cider, Stowford Press Apple Cider, Ruddles Best and Worthington’s; spirits - Bell’s whisky, Gordon’s gin, Duppy White rum, AU vodka; a range of soft drinks - Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max, R. Whites Lemonade, Pepsi Max Cherry; and Lavazza coffee with free refills, as well as tea and hot chocolate.
