Nowadays, it seems like buying a car is harder than ever - there's a lot to consider from payment plans to insurance, and it's all usually just one big headache.
A lot of people avoid some of the headache by going out and buying a second-hand car, saving hassle and money a lot of the time, though the one thing that takes more importance is maintenance.
There are a number of simple things we can do to save money on routine checks at the local garage, and they are game-changing.
A TikToker known as 'Jackson the Mekanic' uploaded a clip to the social media app explaining that there are a few quick checks that could save you a world of trouble when buying your next used car.

The semi-viral clip has got over 81,000 views, with several people thankful for the advice.
So what are these three things that you 'must' have a look at?
Oil Level
The expert begins by highlighting how important it is to check oil levels in the car, pointing his camera at where you should look under the bonnet.

"First, you pull out the dipstick," Jackson begins to explain.
He continues: "Now it's very important to wipe it with a rag first, then re-insert the dipstick back in."
The mechanic says it is important to check it only when the car is off, and gives us a close up to confirm that the oil level reaches the mark on the stick, indicating it's good to go.
Coolant level
Coolant is basically used to reduce or regulate the temperature of your car's engine, ensuring it doesn't get too hot or cold.

To check this, our expert explains: "There's two ways you can do this, you can check it directly from the radiator, or you can check it from the overflow."
Explaining how to check it from the radiator, Jackson says all you have to do is lift the cap - but warns that you'll never want to carry this check out if the car and engine are still hot.
He finds that this car is low on coolant, filling it up with some water to reach the required level.
Brake fluid level
One of the most important things to get right - you wouldn't want your brakes to fail at any point, let's be honest.

Jackson says: "What your looking [for] here is for colour and for the level, so we can see this colour looks nice and new, and is also topped up to the max."
He shows us the maximum fluid level afterwards too if we aren't sure, and that rounds the video off.
Some users were grateful for his help in the comments, with one joking: "Come with me 2 look at my next car".
Another put: "Thanks dad".

A third pointed out: "I wish you would tell us why? So I know wtf I'm doing," with laughing emojis.
