There are a number of reasons why you should steer clear of diagnosed psychopaths, according to one herself.

Content creator Vic, known as @victhepath on TikTok, has been diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), the medical term for psychopathy.

She's explained the one thing that makes psychopaths end relationships, along with the benefits of dating someone with her condition.

What is a psychopath?

When you hear the word 'psychopath', you may envision a crazy movie character like the Joker, Patrick Bateman from American Psycho or the iconic Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs.

But none of these characters are completely accurate portrayals of a real-life psychopath, according to a recent study.

So, what does a real psychopath actually look like and behave like?

Well firstly, they aren't completely deranged and violent like they are in pop culture, they often go undetected and blend into society.

According to website PsychopathyIs, psychopathy is a developmental disorder which can be defined as an extreme lack of empathy, behave in harmful ways or take part in risky behaviour. Medically, it's diagnosed as antisocial personality disorder (ASPD).

Crucially, people diagnosed with the mental health condition can try to better themselves.

Why you shouldn't date a psychopath

TikToker Vic has previously shared how she makes friendships that only benefit her, and now, she has revealed the pros and cons behind dating a psychopath.

Explaining how being in a relationship with a psychopath is, she says that the other person is your 'puppet', adding: "Things in the relationship only go smoothly when things go the way you want them to go."

She later explained: "When your partner starts stepping out of the box that you put them in, that's when the problems happen."

Vic explained that when her partner starts acting 'out of line', she will lose interest because the relationship isn't built on mutual respect, it's built on one person controlling the other.

Vic added: "This is something that I'm personally working on fixing, but this is how my relationships have gone in the past."

The positives of dating a psychopath

In a separate video, she talked about the positives and negatives of being with a psychopath, outlining that psychopaths 'can care for people and they do usually pick certain people in their lives that they care greatly for'.

Vic explained that a lot of psychopaths have toxic relationships, where they use people to get exactly what they want, and are capable of 'doing heinous things'.

Calling herself a 'healthy psychopath', Vic explained that there are benefits to being with people like her, saying that due to their unique world view, they can help you solve problems from an objective point of view.

She further explained that they would stay calm in arguments, and added: "If a psychopath really cares about you, they will actually treat you well.

"Psychopaths want to preserve the genuine relationships that they have in their lives so they will make sure that they treat you well and they'll know how to treat you well.

"They're always observing everybody and they're always manipulating everybody so they'll know you to your core, and they'll be able to use that to give you your dream life."

A nice sentiment, but it's still not something you'd like to hear if it's about your future partner.
