Woman ended marriage after reading husband's 'SWMBO' nickname for her in texts

A woman was shocked when she discovered her husband had a cruel nickname for her

There are a plethora of reasons why a couple might choose to get divorced.

It could be that one of them has had an affair or that they simply want different things and have just grown apart.

But one woman revealed that she knew it was time to pack her things and leave when she found out her hubby had a cruel nickname for her.

Sharing the story to Mamamia, the unnamed woman explained that there had been some issues between her and her husband over an apparent lack of respect.

"From the moment our son was born, nothing changed for my husband," she said. "He absolutely hated telling me what his plans were.

"Would he be home in time for dinner? Could I book a haircut on a Saturday morning? Was he having drinks with his mates straight from work?

"Who knew – because he certainly refused to tell me. He claimed he didn’t have to.

"It was a weird shift in our marriage that I hadn’t expected – this stubborn reluctance to tell us when he was going to participate in our lives."

Things really turned sour, though, when she heard his phone pinging constantly one morning after he had got in late from a night out.

So, while he was in the shower, she decided to have a look, and found a group chat with his friends.

They were trying to organise some drinks, but her husband told them that he probably wouldn't be able to make it because 'SWMBO will say no'.

She checked his phone and found out he had a cruel nickname for her.

Confused by message, the woman said she confronted her husband about it

She wrote: "He wasn’t mad I’d looked at his phone. He was totally unmoved by having to explain the message to me. 'It means She Who Must Be Obeyed', he said, casually.

"I felt like I’d been slapped in the face."

The woman went on: "It wasn't a matter of 'obeying' me ... It's not called 'asking permission' like he's a teenager and I'm his mother.

"It's called respect for your family. After five years of marriage, this is what I'd become to him."

She said that it was then she knew there was 'no coming back from that', and that their marriage had to end.

"To me, I didn’t have a choice," she concluded her post. "Staying with a man who valued us so little wasn’t an option.

"I took my baby and I left my husband the next week."
