Ant and Dec explain what happens to the I'm A Celeb camp when it rains

It's a survival reality TV show, after all

If you’ve ever watched I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and wondered what happens to the campmates when it’s pouring, today’s your lucky day.

Presenting duo Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly have revealed what goes on behind the scenes of ITV’s reality TV show.

The Geordie hosts are back at the helm of I'm a Celebrity for its 24th season, which counts Coleen Rooney, Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse, and N-Dubz singer Tulisa in its ranks.

As usual, the celebrities are shipped to the Australian wilderness to face stomach-churning trials for the chance to become the queen or king of the jungle. Compared to having critters crawling onto your face, a bit of rain doesn’t sound much of a tragedy, right?

Responding to fans’ queries, Ant and Dec confirmed the I’m a Celebrity camp doesn’t get covered when it rains.

"They don’t cover the camp," Ant says in a TikTok video, with Dec adding: "There’s like a canopy."

"There’s a canopy in the middle so all the beds are here," Ant continued, before proceeding to use Dec’s breakfast beans to demonstrate viewers at home.

The canopy may cover the beds, but it won’t be much use if the rain is coming sideways, explains Ant as he makes the baked beans pour from above.

Always up for a laugh, Ant and Dec haven’t spared viewers a cheeky jab at the 'Wagatha Christie' case that had the nation gasping back in 2019.

At the time, Coleen Rooney accused fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories about her to the press. Rooney reportedly found out it was Vardy after posting fabricated stories in her Instagram Stories and changing the privacy settings so they would only be visible to Vardy, and then saw the fake stories published in the tabloids in the following days.

Vardy disputed Rooney’s claims and sued her for libel. In 2022, a judge ruled in favour of Rooney, and Vardy was ordered to pay 90% of Rooney's legal costs, estimated to be around the £1,500,000 mark. Together with her own legal expenses, the trial cost Vardy about £3 million in total.

Two years later, Wagatha Christie is still a hot topic, and now Rooney has joined I’m a Celebrity. In this season's premiere, Ant and Dec couldn’t help themselves, and made a savage nod to the Rooney-Vardy case, saying: "It will be nice for Coleen to face a trial that doesn't involve Rebekah Vardy."

I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
