Saltburn star Rosamund Pike has explained why she wore a veil covering her face at the Golden Globes this weekend.
The 44-year-old British star attended the awards on Sunday (7 January) where she was nominated for the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for her role as Lady Elspeth Catton in the ‘deeply disturbing’ Saltburn.
Pike has previously admitted that she’s ‘bewildered’ by the amount of love her Saltburn character has received - although, let’s be honest, she’s hardly the worst person in that movie, is she?

Speaking to Variety, she said: “I’m totally astonished! I’m bewildered. I sort of don’t know what to do with it. I’ve seen people on Instagram quoting lines and playing clips and also doing their own edits – putting Elspeth together with other characters I’ve played.
“I think in our filtered, cagey world where everyone’s being so cautious, it’s nice to see someone unfiltered. She’s in a bubble, nobody exists except people in her orbit so she can say whatever she wants without consequence. She doesn’t exist in the real world.”
The Gone Girl star was up against Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Julianne Moore (May December), Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer) Da'Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers) and Jodie Foster (Nyad) for the award, which ultimately went to Randolph.

As ever, those attending the Golden Globes went all out when it came to their outfits.
And, of course, Pike was no exception, opting to wear a strapless black lace dress with a fishnet and floral lace appliqué over her arms, chest and neck.
Topping off her look, which British Vogue described as ‘full Saltburn’, Pike wore a veil made out of similar material that covered her arms and neck with a little bow on top.

However, the veil was more than just a sartorial choice for Pike, who joked that it was actually a ‘protective veil’.
Speaking to Variety, Pike said: “I had an accident over Christmas, actually. I had a skiing accident. And I had to think… you know, not what you want when you know you’re coming to the Golden Globes on the 7th of January.
“So on the 26th of December, my face was entirely smashed up and I thought I need to do something.”
As the reporter appeared to be taken aback, Pike went on: “Actually, it’s healed but I fell in love with the look.”
