Cristiano Ronaldo has achieved something that no human has done before.
The legendary footballer has managed to notch 600 million followers on Instagram and is the most followed person on the social media app.
While the account owned by Instagram sits a little higher on the pecking order (with 650 million followers), Ronaldo is not far behind.

He's well clear of the next competitor, who he's rivalled with in the real world.
Lionel Messi and Ronaldo have been constantly compared for their talents in the football world.
However, in this realm, the Portuguese athlete is miles ahead of his Argentinian counterpart's 482 million followers.

When you look at the most liked photograph on Instagram, Messi is the one who reigns supreme.
A collection of photos of him and the Argentina national football team after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup is on top of the list for most likes.
It has a whopping 75.7 million double taps.
Messi sits in third spot on that tally (after Chris Godfrey's photo of an egg) with his image of him lying in bed with the FIFA World Cup trophy.

Interestingly, the top 10 most liked posts on Instagram are all Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronald (except of course the aforementioned egg).
It's clear these two superstar athletes have the world's attention as they continually get incredible engagement from their followers, especially during big moments like Ronaldo's twins announcement or him moving to Saudi Arabia.
They combined their forces in an advert for Louis Vuitton, which got a combined 74 million likes.

Ronaldo lost a whopping three million followers on one day back in November last year.
The outage also saw millions of accounts suspended as they 'didn't follow its community guidelines'.
But, in all seriousness, that's like a drop in the ocean when you have 600 million followers.
If Ronaldo was to form a country with his follower count, it would be the third most populous place in the world, sitting just below China and India.

He even has more followers than the whole of the population of the European Union.
