Usually, a bit of banter with your pals and taking the p**s out of them is a given in friendship. You say some pretty harsh things about them, but it’s all out of love, and that’s why you get away with it.
Except Reese Witherspoon didn’t quite get away with it. The Big Little Lies star admitted she’s had her friendship with an A-list actor ended over a bit of a ‘roast’ at an awards ceremony.
The 48-year-old is currently starring in Prime Video’s new film, You’re Cordially Invited, alongside Will Ferrell, and the pair were doing a joint interview when she made the admission.

The unnamed actor had asked Witherspoon personally to speak at said ‘classy’ event in her honour, saying it ‘literally haunts’ her to this day.
“So this friend of mine, who I didn't really know that well but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award,” she explained to PEOPLE.
The star explained she had never been to this particular awards ceremony, so (like many others are), assumed it ‘was like a roast’.

“So I got up and roasted her.”
However, Witherspoon explained it was more of a ‘British’, ‘elegant’ and ‘classy’ affair – not quite the vibe for her cracking cringe jokes about her pal.
And while she didn't say who the roasting victim was, rumours online suggest it was a star whose name rhymes with Wate Kinslet at an event in the 00s.
“I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?’” she recalled. “I'm still embarrassed about it."

And following that cringe-worthy hiccup, the actor stopped talking to Witherspoon as she revealed they’re ‘not friends anymore’.
“I'm not even kidding — we're not friends anymore, I think she doesn't like me anymore,” she said. “I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. Yeah. Not even kidding, she doesn't talk to me anymore. Oh well."
Well, either way, it seems she’s not losing too much sleep over it.

This failure of a speech reveal comes as her character, Margot, also gives a cringey speech in the new film.
Released on Prime Video yesterday (January 30), it sees two weddings accidentally booked at the same venue on the same day with each bridal party trying to make things work.
The father of one bride (Ferrell) chaotically goes head-to-head with the sister of the other bride (Witherspoon) to try and make the best out of their situations.
It’s currently sitting at 44 percent on Rotten Tomatoes with 42 percent from viewers after a day of it being out.
