Robin Williams' son, Zachary, has shared an emotional message on his late father's 73rd birthday.
The entertainment icon was known for his roles in films such as Aladdin, Good Morning, Vietnam, Jumanji and Mrs. Doubtfire among many others.

Though widely known as a comedy legend, Williams' more serious roles in the likes of Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting earned him critical acclaim, with the star winning an Oscar for his character Dr. Sean Maguire in the latter movie.
However, throughout his life, Williams struggled with depression. On 11 August, 2014 the actor tragically took his own life at the age of 63.
His son, Zachary, posted a heartfelt message on what would would have been his 73rd birthday (21 July, 2024), on social media.

The 41-year-old wrote on Instagram: "Dad, on what would be your 73rd birthday, I remember you for all the hope and joy you brought to the world.
"There’s not a week that goes by without someone sharing with me how you helped them through a dark time or a rough patch.
"I’m so grateful and proud to be your son. Love you forever."
Along with the tribute, Zachary posted a black and white photo of the comedy icon with his legs crossed and fingers connected, in a zen-like pose, while sporting the iconic Robin Williams smile.

Williams was best known for his exceptional improvisational skills, high levels of energy and genius when it came to comedy.
Following news of Williams' suicide in August 2014, the entertainment world and beyond went into shock, mourning the loss of someone who seemed so positive and joyful, but was struggling deep down.
Zachary was the only child of Williams and his ex-wife Valerie Velardi, and has never been shy to share how influential his father was in his life, and for many others.

Zachary also remembered his father on Father's Day this year with a post on Instagram, writing about his compassion.
"On this tenth Father’s Day without you, I’m remembering your incredible thoughtfulness and compassion for others," he began.
"Thank you for showing me what it truly means to be unconditionally loving and kind. I miss you and love you today and every day."

Williams also had two other children, Zelda and Cody, with second wife Marsha Garces, before marrying his third wife, Susan Schneider, in 2011.
Williams' death brought a lot of mainstream attention to how society deals with mental health issues, both in the entertainment industry and among men.
