Comedian Rosie O'Donnell shares candid pics of 'shameful' facelift that costs more than any car she's bought

Despite previously considering facelifts to be a 'betrayal' of feminism, Rosie O'Donnell has just admitted that she had one.

The 64-year-old stand up star shared a before and after photo showing off her transformation, while opening up about how going under the knife left her feeling 'shameful'.

She told fans that the procedure 'cost more money than she has ever paid for a car' - and how one of her children warned her they 'wouldn’t be able to respect' her if she went through with it.

O'Donnell, who hails from New York, announced the news that she had undergone a lower deep plane face lift in a social media post on Tuesday (26 May).

She shared a snap of her results on Instagram while directing people to head to her Substack to get the lowdown on her complex feelings surrounding having cosmetic surgery.

The comedian confessed she 'used to feel very strongly about facelifts', in a 'moral' rather than 'casual' sense and 'had assigned herself as head of all women who would never - ever [get one]'.

O'Donnell wrote: "I thought it was a betrayal. Of feminism. Of aging. Of our team of women worldwide. And then I lost 50 pounds…"

She explained that she would gaze in the mirror and scrutinise the impact 'gravity' was having on her appearance, saying that her skin looked as though it was 'melting with intention'.

"I tried to be evolved about it," O'Donnell continued. "And say things like, 'This is natural. This is earned'. And then…'umm how earned does it have to look?' There’s a point where acceptance starts to feel like lying."

In the Substack post that was titled 'decisions', the mother-of-five recalled how she decided to start researching facelifts and began to seriously consider having one.

However, her youngest child Clay then 'found out' and the 13-year-old didn't mince their words when it came to sharing their opinion.

O'Donnell, who previously left the US to live in Ireland, wrote: "It was not subtle. 'You earned your wrinkles.' Which - first of all - rude. But also… correct."

Clay also told their mother that 'young women look up to her' before brutally adding: "I wouldn’t be able to respect you if you did it."

"And that one…landed," O’Donnell went on. "That’s a big statement from someone who still needs you to open jars. [Clay] sounded exactly like me.

Like my younger, more certain, more morally rigid self had somehow moved into my house."

Despite the threat of losing the respect of one of her offspring, O'Donnell decided to make her facelift a teachable moment.

"I want [her kids] to grow up in a world where they don't feel like they have to change but also know they can, if they want to, without losing moral standing in their own lives," the funnywoman said.

The former The View host found a doctor she trusted to perform the facelift while ensuring that she still resembled herself.

She wrote: "I wanted a limit. I wanted to still be me, just… less haunted. And I do look like me - a slightly more well-rested, emotionally stable version of me."

And although she loves her results, she hilariously revealed that none of her nearest and dearest even 'noticed' the change in her appearance - including Clay.

"Not one person," O’Donnell laughed. "Not a friend, not a stranger, not even people who owe me compliments. My teen daughter, has not said a word. Nothing.

"I went through a full existential feminist crisis, had my face and neck surgically altered, and the result is… zippo."

O'Donnell admitted she has grappled with feelings of guilt since having the facelift done, as the price she paid for it made her hyperaware of her 'privileged place in this world'.

The fact that it cost more than any motor she has ever purchased 'feels almost shameful', she said, before adding: "The things I have - earned some say, but [it's] the gross excess that wounds me."

O'Donnell then signed off by saying: "As I get ready for the last day of school with my youngest - the caboose here at 64 years old with a new lower face and neck, just happy to be alive, able to feel and choose and use my voice whenever I feel called to...For the girl I was, the woman I am, and all those joining my ranks. As we carry on in act 3, this is me."
