Chris Rock 'Holds Back Tears' As He Breaks His Silence About Being Slapped By Will Smith

Chris Rock 'Holds Back Tears' As He Breaks His Silence About Being Slapped By Will Smith

The comedian received a standing ovation at his comedy show and revealed he's still processing what happened.

Chris Rock has received a standing ovation at his comedy show after the infamous slapping incident at the Oscars.

The comedian has finally broken his silence about the moment Will Smith came onto the stage at the 94th Academy Awards and slapped him in the face.

Everyone was keen to hear his take on the slap that has spawned thousands of headlines, however Rock has kept a lot of people in the dark for now.

He arrived onto the stage at The Wilbur Theater in Boston and was instantly showered with praise from the packed out hall.

According to Deadline, the standing ovation went for four to five minutes before everyone settled down and waited for him to speak.

"Let me be all misty and s***," he said.

The Daily Mail claims Rock started off his show 'with tears in his eyes', clearly overwhelmed with everyone's support.

"I don't have a bunch of s*** to say about that, so if you came here for that.

"I had written a whole show before this weekend.

"I'm still processing what happened, so at some point I'll talk about that s***. It'll be serious. It'll be funny.

"But right now I'm going to tell some jokes."

Tonight's (March 31) show is one of several Boston performances before Rock embarks on his Ego Death World Tour, which has seen a huge amount of interest following the Oscars.

One ticket website revealed it sold more tickets to Rock’s forthcoming tour in the wake of the spat than it has done in the past month.

Rock’s tour was announced last month, with a promise of ‘very funny’ new material as it kicks off with a 38-date North American leg.

Will Smith has since addressed what happened at the Oscars and has extended his heartfelt apologies to Chris Rock for the outburst, which came after the comedian made a bald-headed joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith.

"Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive," he said. "My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.

"Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong.

"I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

"I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world.

"I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard family.

"I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.

"I am a work in progress."
