Conor McGregor responds after Liam Neeson calls him a 'little leprechaun'

Conor McGregor responds after Liam Neeson calls him a 'little leprechaun'

"That little leprechaun Conor McGregor, he gives Ireland a bad name"

Conor McGregor appears to have responded after Liam Neeson slammed the UFC star and described him as a 'little leprechaun'.

It's the battle of the Irish titans.

The comments came about when Neeson was asked about the sport in a new interview with Men's Health ahead of the US release of his film Marlowe.

And, well, he didn't hold back.

The 70-year-old star told the outlet: "UFC I can’t stand. That to me is like a bar fight.

"I know the practitioners are like, 'No, you’re wrong - the months of training we do...'

"Why don’t you just grab a beer bottle and hit the other guy over the head? That’s the next stage of the UFC. I hate it."

Now you know what he thinks of the world's biggest MMA championship, here's what he thinks of one of its main stars:

"That little leprechaun Conor McGregor, he gives Ireland a bad name. I know he’s fit, and I admire him for that. But I can’t take it."

Now, we all know McGregor isn't one to hold back from an online slinging match, but he's been relatively quiet on this front.

Liam Neeson pulled some verbal punches.

However, a day after the interview came out, the 34-year-old UFC star took to Twitter to say, "Irish proud - always," alongside an emoji of the Ireland flag.

Dozens of people have commented on the message, with one simply attaching Neeson's 'leprechaun' comment and another who shared a photo of the antagonist from the horror film Leprechaun.

Elsewhere on Twitter, one commenter wrote: "This Liam Neeson and Conor McGregor business has gone completely out of hand."

Another said what we're all thinking: "McGregor V Neeson on PPV would surely sell out Croker...no?"

Could you imagine the hype?

Despite the fact that Neeson's 70 and not a professional fighter, some fans still have their money on the actor, including this person who said: "Still think Liam would take him."

Joking aside, we're almost definitely not going to be seeing the pair heading into the Octagon any time soon.

In December last year, McGregor fired back a response at Joe Rogan too after the podcaster insinuated he had been using performance-enhancing drugs.

On an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the UFC commentator said McGregor’s bulked-up physique may be the result of taking some, er, not-so-natural substances - steroids, guys.

McGregor has been out of the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for several months and hasn’t been testing all year.

In the meantime, he’s been consistent in showing off his jacked physique.

"He’s taking his shirt off and posing constantly, and he looks like his pi** would melt that USADA cup," Rogan said.

"Like, it would just like burn a hole right through the bottom of that USADA cup."

Rogan added: "The weird thing is that there is a loophole in USADA that allows you to get out of the testing pool. You can get out of the testing pool and just juice up."

McGregor wasn't going to take it lying down, though. In his usual feisty fashion, the Irish fighter took a jab at Rogan’s own physique.

He also pointed out Rogan never fought in the MMA Octagon.

"Joe looks like his pi** melts his knickers," McGregor said in a since-deleted tweet.

"In the company that long and never took a fight hahaha @ufc oh tae kwon do competition, call the cops hahahahaah."

Accompanying the tweet was a side-by-side image of Rogan at 25 years old and 52 years old, with both pictures showing off his muscular body.

LADbible has contacted a rep for McGregor for comment.
