First trailer drops for Dexter prequel series with new star playing serial killer

First trailer drops for Dexter prequel series with new star playing serial killer

Michael C. Hall will not be playing serial killer Dexter in the new series

The first trailer has dropped for the prequel series to Dexter.

The prequel series, which will be called Dexter: Original Sin, has been met with trepidation from fans.

Original Sin will take place when the iconic serial killer was just a young man, and will even see the return of Michael C Hall, the star of the original series.

Check out the the first look teaser here:

The synopsis for the show is listed as: "Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin will provide a deeper look at how it all began, focusing on 20-year-old Dexter as he commits his first kill. When his bloodthirsty urges can't be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness."

The show will also feature Sarah Michelle Gellar, with many unaware until the teaser dropped.

Going off the social media reaction, the overwhelming majority are not keen on the show's planned return.

In the replies to the teaser posted by DiscussingFilm on Twitter, most replies were negative.

One said: "Nobody asked for this", whilst another said: "Nothing will top the original."

Some fans though are just happy to see the character back on screen.

One fan tweeted: "This is gonna be sick", whilst another said: "This is going to be insanely massive........ I miss the dexter IP. Let's goo".

Whilst referring to a TV show as IP makes me shiver, some fans do seem hopeful that the series will work.

Patrick Gibson will star as the young version of the serial killer, and will be joined by a fairly star-studded cast.

As well as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Christian Slater and Patrick Dempsey will also be starring in the show.

Michael C Hall is also shown voicing the trailer, leading many to believe he may be returning to the show.

Hall told EW earlier this year: "The scripts they've executed are fantastic.

"I can't wait, like as a fan, to watch it, and as an actor, to spend time seeing real footage of things that I've sort of tried to imagine for myself when I imagine what Dexter's early days [were like], now I'm going to have this technicolor version of his memories to refer to.

"And I think it will help inform my experience of whatever comes next in the other series, which I can only speak vaguely about at this point."

Dexter Original Sin will be streaming from December 13.
