The newest trailer for 28 Years Later is out and fan excitement for the upcoming zombie sequel is palpable.
The film has a star-studded cast, including Jodie Comer, Jack O’Connell, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Erin Kellyman.
Director Danny Boyle is returning to the franchise after 23 years, having left 28 Weeks Later to be taken over by another creative team.
Boyle is returning alongside fellow 28 Days Later writer Alex Garland, who has also recently directed films such as Civil War and Warfare.
The trailer is once again set to Boots, a famous military marching song used to 'torture' new recruits due to its repetitive nature.
Fans reacting to the trailer online were full of praise, with one tweeting: "This is the most fire trailer I've seen. Really can't tell which way this film is gonna turn but I'm so ready."
Another said: "The consistency of tone in the marketing has been phenomenal so far. Can't wait for this film."
A third commented on YouTube to say: "I'll give this trailer props for not showing major plot points and just showing bits and pieces to keep us interested for the actual movie. This is how a trailer should be done."
While the trailer is still sure to have fans excited for the film, things will potentially not be going as insane as when the first trailer released.
The film's trailers have been setting a dark tone (Sony) Both fans worldwide and journalists at numerous publications (maybe even including LADbible) were convinced that a zombie shown in the trailer was Cillian Murphy’s returning Jim.
Petrol was thrown on the fire when fans started spotting a number of references to Jim throughout the trailer.
This was later debunked by the director Danny Boyle, with The Guardian confirming it was instead art dealer Angus Neill.
Boyle has however addressed the fact that Murphy might be in the film, or a later sequel, as the actor was spotted on set filming.
The film is coming out later this year (Sony) The director said in a recent interview: "Like all good things in life, you may have to wait a little while for him to make his appearance."
The films are planned to be a trilogy, with 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple already confirmed to be directed by Nia DaCosta.
The third film in the trilogy is yet to be green-lit and is likely dependent on the response to 28 Years Later.
Speaking about the sequel, DaCosta said: "While it’s very much informed by 28 Days Later, the script for The Bone Temple is very different. I was able to let my freak flag fly."
28 Years Later release June 20, 2025.
