A quick browse of the internet and you might feel convinced that the world is like a wheelie bin on fire rolling down a hill filled with mines, but that’s not the case! Let’s look at the lighter side of life, shall we? From takeaway titans to pancake champions, and a tree giveaway to save the planet, there’s plenty to celebrate. Let’s get into it!
Dundalk’s Takeaway Titans Reign Supreme
In a week brimming with award ceremonies, let’s cut to the only accolades that truly matter: the champions of spice bags, loaded fries, and mixed kebab trays. Dundalk’s finest takeaways just cleaned up at the 2025 Irish Takeaway Awards, proving once and for all that when it comes to top-tier munch, this town doesn’t mess around.

Leading the charge is A91 Street Food, which has officially been crowned "King of the Wings". That’s right, their crispy, saucy, flavour-packed chicken has taken the throne, leaving competitors in the dust. If you haven’t tried their legendary creations yet, this might the time to drop everything and go inhale a portion immediately.
Meanwhile, over at Tony’s Pizzeria, the team is adding another trophy to their already stacked shelf. Not only did they secure the title of "Best Pizza in Ireland" for the second year running, but they also scooped up "Takeaway Team of the Year." Because what’s better than an award-winning pizza? An award-winning pizza made by an award-winning squad.
Not to be left out, Sitar on Chapel Street is also basking in well-earned glory. Run by the Singh family, this Indian gem took home the title of Leinster’s Indian Takeaway of the Year. They’re no strangers to food awards, having been recognized multiple times since relocating from Carlingford in 2020.
So, while A-listers are busy getting their Oscars engraved, Dundalk’s finest are basking in the golden glow coming off the cooking oil in their fryers. C’mon da town!

Cork’s Pancake Olympics - The Fierce Battle of MacCurtain Street
In a showdown more intense than Willem Dafoe’s smile, Cork’s MacCurtain Street Pancake Race saw local businesses battle it out, frying pans in hand, for the ultimate glory—flipping their way to victory.
Dating back to 1826, when Thompson’s Bakery was still rolling in dough, the Shrove Tuesday tradition was revived by the Metropole Hotel in 2018, and it’s only gotten more competitive (and more ridiculous) since. The aim of the game is to run to the finish line first, all the while, flipping a pancake in a frying pan. I'd like to see Usain Bolt pull that off!

This year’s champion? Aaron Mansworth, Managing Director of Trigon Hotels, who finally put his seven years of "training" to use and took home the crown. "I’m seven years in training and my first time taking part—I’m looking forward to defending my title next year," he declared, already plotting his 2026 dominance.
Competitors from many local businesses gave it their all, but, in the end, there could be only one!
Sandra Murphy from Trigon Hotels summed it up best: "It’s a great way to showcase the vibrancy of the area." Translation? Cork takes its pancake races as seriously as its pints.
With another year of batter-fuelled mayhem over, training for 2026 begins now!
