The Gorge's Anya Taylor-Joy was left 'feeling in danger' after filming nail-biting scene

The Gorge star opened up about the scene

Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller went above and beyond for The Gorge, Apple TV+’s newest hit film.

The pair led the mystery action thriller, directed by Scott Derrickson, alongside Sigourney Weaver and Sope Dirisu.

The film’s premise is simple, two snipers are hired to watch over a mysterious Gorge for a year.

They are not allowed to communicate with one another and must make sure that whatever is in the Gorge stays in.

The pair strike up a romance after communicating with one another via signs from across the mysterious expanse.

Without spoiling how they get into such a serious predicament, Taylor-Joy and Teller’s characters find themselves at one point inside a Jeep hanging from a rope in the air being winched up the side of a mountain.

While I think not a soul would have the excused the pair for thinking they would be doing so via the magical powers of CGI, they were actually doing stunts in a Jeep which was being hung off the side of a cliff.

In an exclusive interview with LADbible, Taylor-Joy and Teller opened up about the experience.

When asked what was done practically in the film they both chimed in time to say: “The Jeep!”

Teller then said: “We're being pulled on this Jeep and there's gravity involved… but I'm saying there were safety precautions made but there wasn't enough tension to where you couldn’t see the tension in the wire or anything, and any accident that you made your character would fall and you, the actor would fall. It was just such a small jeep too.”

Taylor-Joy added: “Very hard too, I know it sounds silly but if you fall or, even if you do the movement right, you’re still slamming into a piece of metal.”

When asked whether it feels real and whether they felt in danger shooting the stunt, Taylor Joy immediately exclaimed: “Yeah!”

Teller went on to expand saying: “Even technically, we were fairly high up in the air, and we're swinging around in this thing, and we're, you know, kicking guys, we're dropping down layers into the jeep.

“It took a while, that was our biggest, longest set piece as far as any kind of stunts.”

The dedication paid off, with The Gorge being well received by fans and critics.

Glenn Kenny of the New York Times said in his four-star review: “For all the elaborate weaponry, production design and frantic action offered here, this movie crackles most as a lively pas de deux between Taylor-Joy and Teller, who commendably take their material seriously no matter how seriously ridiculous it gets.”

The Gorge is available to stream on Apple TV+ now.
