99 percent of the time remakes are never as good as the original.
Although it seems Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has broken this trend 36 years on from the first film - with a higher Rotten Tomatoes score.
The sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 classic sees the return of Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, the mean and mischievous ghost.

Winona Ryder reprises her role as Lydia Deetz, now a grown up mum with a daughter, played by Jenna Ortega.
The story follows Lydia's daughter, who accidentally summons Beetlejuice, leading to new chaos in the Deetz family’s life.

Now, if Rotten Tomatoes is anything to go by, then it seems viewers are rating the second film slightly higher than the first one, which came out in 1988.

People have given the original a 82 percent score on the 'Popcornmeter', while Beetlejuice Beetlejuice got a 84 percent score.
Justifying their ratings, one viewer said: "As good if not better than the first that is saying a lot!!"
A second acknowledged: "VERY RARE does a sequel to a classic come close to the original but here we are.
"It’s JUST as fun as the first one. Laughs from beginning to end."

While a third penned: "The storyline was great! The movie has many familiar and new characters.
"The action is fast-paced and quite entertaining, with wildly funny scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed it."
However, not all were convinced, as another comment read: "Very entertaining, will never be like the first one but Tim Burton did a pretty good job.

"Monica Bellucci has no point being there clearly Burton enjoys putting his women in his movies but the character didn't make any sense."
"Kids liked the movie. The movie being many years since the first one wasn't that much better with visual effects," a fifth added.
"Maybe that was intentional, but even the costumes were a little off and unbelievable. Was still a pretty entertaining movie."

Someone else also wrote: "This is definitely not the original! I took my family to see this thinking it would a fun comedy with some scary NOPE! I was so disappointed."
This comes after fans were loving Ortega and Ryder's outing at the Venice Film Festival.
After Ryder was caught on camera looking a little frazzled, her on-screen daughter comforted her by insisting that 'no, you don't have to' take off your sunglasses at the request of the paparazzi.
Taking to socials, one person said: "There's something very comforting about the younger generation encouraging the older generation (who were raised to please & say yes) to maintain their boundaries no matter what."
"Kinda sad that a veteran actor feels like they have to follow orders from photographers but kudos to younger gen for empowering them," another wrote.
