People think Flat Earth debate is over as new footage shows Katy Perry in space

This video of the pop star might finally put a stop to the fiery debate about the shape of the planet

The 'Flat Earth' debate has been raging for longer than most of us care to remember, but people think Katy Perry might have now finally put a stop to it.

Social media users reckon that the pop star, 40, has managed to put conspiracy theorists in their place once and for all during her quick trip to space on Monday (14 April).

She was among the six powerful women who were sent off to experience weightlessness while in orbit in Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket for the historic all-female mission.

Perry was joined on the New Shepard capsule by Lauren Sanchez, CBS presenter Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe.

Although a lot of people were left wondering why the 'Firework' singer was invited on the trip, people reckon she actually proved to be a pivotal member of the crew.

As well as being a passenger with a good set of pipes on her - hence her belting out 'What a Wonderful World' on the 11-minute flight - she's apparently also ended the Flat Earth debate for good.

Despite the theory being scientifically disproven, there's a host of people who still believe that our planet is not spherical and is infact shaped more like a plane or a disc.

Countless experts have argued the toss with the Flat Earth brigade about this topic, including Professor Brian Cox, who made it clear the theory is a load of rubbish.

The British boffin previously explained: "There is absolutely no basis at all for thinking the world is flat. Nobody in human history, as far as I know, has thought the world was flat.

"The Greeks measured the radius of the Earth. I cannot conceive of a reason why anybody would think the world is flat."

If you're wondering why he got so worked up while explaining this, it's because we all do something on a regular basis which proves the Earth is demonstrably not flat.

Cox continued: "The very simple fact we've taken pictures of it. I'm lost for words, it's probably the most nonsensical suggestion that a thinking human being could possibly make. It is drivel."

And thanks to Perry's stunt on the Blue Origin flight, we've now also got video footage which supports Cox's point too.

During the mission, the mother-of-one took the opportunity to do some promo for her upcoming tour by bringing her unannounced setlist for the ride.

Perry previously said she thought it would be 'pretty cool' to reveal the songs she will be performing for fans while in space, so she did just that and produced a butterfly shaped piece of paper listing the tracks.

And at this point of the flight, the camera in the New Shepard rocket also captured a shocking - to Flat Earthers, that is - sight behind her...the curvature of planet Earth.

The spherical structure of the globe is pretty undeniable as it is, but the roundness of it is indisputable in this clip, social media users said.

Sharing their thoughts on X, one person said: "Flat Earthers seeing that curve are like..."

Another joked: "Katy Perry is about to become public enemy #1 for the Flat Earth crowd!!"

A third said: "Flat Earthers... Where y'all at??"

So, as well as potentially being the first person to ever take a daisy up into space, Perry might have finally put a stop to Flat Earth theories too.

All in a day's work, eh?
