When it comes to a new streaming service, many people will have a varied criteria for what makes it great.
For some, it’s about having great originals like The Mandalorian or Stranger Things.
For others, it will be how many of the top classics you have, whether that be TV such as Breaking Bad or movies like Moonlight.

For many though, the measure of a streaming service is exactly how many horror movies they have which are so f*cked up you’d kill a Victorian child if you showed them one.
Good news then for UK horror fans – because the library of a new entirely free streaming service could easily take out droves of Victorian children.

The service in question is Tubi, a free Netflix rival which has launched in the UK only this week.
Whilst the streamer had already existed in the US for a few year, the Rupert Murdoch backed service has now hit the UK.
Fans have noticed the expansive horror library on display, and decided to put out the word.
A horror fan by the name of Jack posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) to say: “UK horror fiends, Tubi just launched over here and I'm genuinely shocked how great their catalogue is!

“From classic to cult to excellent horror picks, there's something for everyone! Oh and it's FREE!!!”
This may be news to those of us in the UK, but US fans have been singing the praises of Tubi’s horror section for years.
Earlier this year it was announced that in May of 2024, Tubi had more viewers than Disney+, Peacock, Max, and Paramount+.

One horror fan quote tweeted this to say: “Because any self respecting fan of indie and horror (intelligent people) know Tubi has the best selection.”
Another fan was even more blunt in their appraisal, tweeting:
“Tubi is THAT b*tch and forever will be. Every horror fan is fueled by Tubi.”
One fan went even further in their claims however, saying: “Tubi is the best streaming service for horror movies and it's free.”

Tubi’s selection in the UK may be more limited than Netflix’s, but it is undeniably brilliant.
For one, it has the 1992 version of Candyman – a cult classic that has inspired numerous horror films from the last 30 years.
An r/horror post discussing the film on Reddit once received a comment saying: “This movie truly scares the crap out of me. As a 43 year old horror man, I can't say that about too many...this one does it though.”
Add to that underrated bangers like Happy Death Day and the film that dominated online discussion when it came out, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, and you have the makings of a great horror section.
