There are some celebrities who you just either love or hate. And often with that, you’re either a big fan of their films or cannot even sit through five minutes.
One of those guys is easily Adam Sandler. But even if you do think his string of films are unbearably dry, it’s a fact that his work has grossed enormous sums – even if they seem like flops.
Take Grown Ups for example, which reportedly brought in over $270 million (£232 million) at the box office, despite critics absolutely slating it.
Despite it’s rather sh*t rating of 10 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the 2010 comedy did well for Sandler and his cast of celebrity pals.

Alongside the divisive actor, the movie starred Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider.
Sure, the guys might be mega famous but bad reviews can’t exactly be nice - so helping soften the blow, Sandler spent over £500,000 on gifts for the men.
The 57-year-old bought his co-stars a Maserati each, estimated to be worth about $200,000 (or about £130,000 at the time). But they weren’t necessarily all impressed with the cars.

Sandler gave the guys no head up about the presents and in an interview on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno back in 2010, Spade admitted that he'd been too 'embarrassed' to actually drive it.
Meanwhile, Rock said that he feared the gift came with a string attached.
Speaking to Howard Stern, he joked: "I went outside the other day and I had a new Maserati in the driveway. Now I think that I'm Adam Sandler's b****."
Spade recalled the gifting as he explained: “He gave us all a Maserati.

"Chris Rock called me and he goes, 'Will you look in your driveway?', and I go, 'No,' and he goes, 'Got out front and call me.'
"So I go out front and they're putting a car in my driveway, and I go, 'What's happening?', and they go, 'Adam Sandler.'
"I go, 'Oh, is this his car, I'm supposed to watch it?'"

He continued: "I call Rock and I go, 'I'm keeping Adam's car here for some reason,' and he goes, 'No that's for you, we all got one'."
Despite the flop reviews for Grown Ups, money talks and Grown Ups 2 followed in 2013 - failing to even reach the incredibly low bar set by the first film with a score of just eight percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
