Warning: This article contains spoilers for Interstellar
It may have been almost 11 years since Interstellar came out, but the film is so interesting that fans are still coming up with theories as to what did and didn’t happen.
Whether it be figuring out what the ticking noise on the planet they visit is or the hidden meaning behind the same footage being used twice in the movie, Interstellar is rife with theories and tiny details.

If you happen to live under a rock and are still reading despite not having seen Interstellar - go watch it now - the film stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and even a young Timothée Chalamet.
The Christopher Nolan sci-fi thriller follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole to try and find a new habitable planet for humanity.
McConaughey stars as Coop, the lead astronaut on the mission whose daughter, Murph, is played by Chastain.
The film’s ending, in which Murph and Coop are reunited with Murph as an elderly woman, is iconic, however one fan noticed a small detail which may totally reframe the final moments of the classic movie.

They posted a comment on a YouTube video of the reunion between the two, replying to another user who was expressing how much of an emotional hit they found it.
The fan responded: “Want to be hit harder? Coop never made it back. Murph never saw her Dad again. It’s all there.”
They went on to explain: “The end scene never happens. It's a figment of Coop's imagination as he dies floating in space.

“What do we hear on the soundtrack as he is left floating in space after the tesseract collapses? The high-pitched beep of a life support machine registering death. (We also hear it when Professor Brand dies).

“What do we see when Coop wakes up in hospital? That he is in a long tunnel with a light at the end. People who have come back from near-death experiences report seeing a light at the end of a tunnel.
“What does Dr Mann tell Coop twice? That the last thing you see before you die is your children. Coop never made it home.”

While one comment said they would ‘never sleep’ after reading the theory, not everyone was convinced.
After the comments were posted to Reddit, some fans picked apart the theory.

One wrote: “I disagree people have an awful need to make everything darker than it's supposed to be, And making the ending more complicated goes against the entire movie.”
Others pointed out that, supposedly, Nolan’s original ending actually did have Coop dying, but was convinced by execs to change it to make it less bleak.
Whether you think he died (or that this is all a bit much) the theory is an interesting read regardless.
