Moment Jennifer Lawrence admitted to sleeping with director of film which she 'doesn't understand'

Moment Jennifer Lawrence admitted to sleeping with director of film which she 'doesn't understand'

The actress might have put on a great performance in Darren Aronofsky's 2017 flick, but she didn't have a clue what was going on

As well as being a dab hand at archery in The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence is a straight shooter in real life too.

If her interviews are anything to go by, it seems that the actress, from the US state of Kentucky, lives by the mantra that 'honesty is the best policy' - as she simply cannot stop sharing her truth about a subject.

She has candidly discussed the 'degrading' act she had to perform while trying to get a leg up in Hollywood, how filming with Leonardo DiCaprio left her in 'absolute misery' and how she had to get really drunk to kiss one of her co-stars.

So, a little thing like discussing her sex life on TV is no big deal for this star.

However, Lawrence still managed to shock fans with her hilarious admission about how she was mixing business with pleasure on the set of Mother!, a 2017 psychological horror directed by Darren Aronofsky.

She starred as the titular character in the flick alongside Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer, which follows a poet and his wife who's tranquil existence in a rural home is disturbed by a swarm of uninvited guests.

The plot, which is inspired by the Bible, is so steeped in symbolism and tone that it can be a bit confusing to say the least.

The fact that the characters are called 'Mother', 'Him', 'Man', 'Woman', 'Older Brother' and 'Youngest Son', really doesn't help matters either - so don't worry if you didn't quite understand it, as Lawrence revealed she barely did either.

Despite the fact she was sharing pillow talk with the director each night after filming, she still couldn't quite get the gist of what was going on in Mother!.

Take a look at this:

As you can see, Lawrence isn't shy about discussing her relationship with Aronofsky, who wrote and directed Mother!.

In fact, her extra-curricular activities with the American filmmaker are the only reason that the Silver Linings Playbook star had any kind of understanding about what was going on in the chilling movie.

During an appearance on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live in 2023, Lawrence admitted that she was still baffled by the plot while revealing where she'd place herself on a 'scale of one to totally confused'.

The 33-year-old said: "I’m going to be honest. Well, I was sleeping with the director, so I had the CliffsNotes. So… five? Or a four."

Lawrence then hilariously joked: "But if anybody needs any tips on understanding their films, you know what to do!"

The host then quickly confirmed: "F*** the director?," to which Lawrence replied: "Yeah!"

That's one way to get the picture, I guess.

Lawrence previously tried to explain the plot of Mother! during an interview with Deadline in 2017, saying it's 'all an allegory' with a much deeper meaning.

"It’s all metaphor that’s tied to this narrative. It’s the creation and decimation of the universe, including Biblical themes and creation of religion," she said.

"I represent Mother Earth, and what I have is Baby Jesus - if we guess the religion.

"I play this woman who has built this home from the ground up. I’m in a relationship with an artist who is obsessed with needing appreciation from me first, and then I’m not enough."

However good his late night explanations might have been, Lawrence and Aronofsky weren't meant to be and she split from the Black Swan director in November 2017 after a year of dating.
