New trailer for Joker 2 has just dropped

The newest trailer gives us a closer look at the Joker and Harley Quinn

Joker 2 has released a new trailer for the highly anticipated film, which is set to release later this year.

The upcoming sequel, Joker: Folie À Deux, will bring back Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker, as well as introducing Lady Gaga as his love interest, Harley Quinn.

The trailer was preempted by a 24-hour live stream by Warner Brothers with a waiting screen of ‘The Joker and Harley Show’. You can watch the trailer here:

The set is very similar to the Murray Franklin show from Joker, in which Phoenix’s Joker was interviewed by Robert De Niro’s Franklin.

Joker: Folie À Deux picks up after the events of Joker and sees the titular character being admitted to Arkham State Hospital.

Whilst there, he meets Harley Quinn, the ‘love of his life’ and long-time comic book partner in crime.

And from there, the two 'embark on a doomed romantic misadventure'.

The film's first trailer featured numerous elements which had some fans worried it would be a musical - including the two performing at a club together before waltzing through the streets of Gotham.

Despite this, director Todd Phillips addressed fan concerns that it would be a musical, telling Entertainment Weekly: “We never really talked about it like that, but I like to say it’s a film where music is an essential element.

"To me, that doesn’t veer too far from the first film.”

Phillips went on to state that everything would make sense when you sit down to watch the film.

He said: “Arthur [Fleck]’s weird and aloof and all these things, but he has music in him. He has a grace to him,

“That informed a lot of the dancing in the first film. It didn’t feel like that big of a step here. It’s different, but I think it’ll make sense when you see it.”

Gaga will also be joining the likes of Margot Robbie and Kaley Cuoco, who've previously played Harley in the Suicide Squad film series and HBO Max's Harley Quinn.

But despite the daunting task, the singer promised viewers that her take on the character would be 'brand new'.

"You know my version of Harley is mine, and it's very authentic to this movie and these characters," the House of Gucci star told Access Hollywood.

"I've never done anything like I've done in this movie before, so it's all going to be completely brand new and really fun."

And Gaga has already received the seal of approval from Robbie, who said in 2022 that it was her dream for Harley to be a role that's 'passed from great actor to great actor'.

She added that she thinks Gaga will do 'something incredible with it'.
