The documentary film revealed the health condition he had hidden

On 19 June 2016, a Hollywood star died in a tragic accident. And now a movie about his life has a near-perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Anton Yelchin was just 27 years old when he died, following a career that started as a child actor with a lead in the mystery drama film, Hearts in Atlantis.

He was truly thrust into the spotlight later on as he played Pavel Chekov in the 2009 Star Trek reboot as well as Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation.

The American actor went on to reprise his role as Chekov in Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond before his death.

Yelchin’s life came to an end when he had a freak accident involving his SUV.

The star failed to show up at rehearsal on 18 June 2016 and was then discovered by friends in the early hours of the next morning, pinned between his Jeep and a brick pillar gatepost outside his home.

When he had hopped out of the car to check his locked gate for post, it is said the vehicle rolled back down the steep incline of his driveway, trapping him. Yelchin was pronounced dead at the scene with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office identifying the cause as ‘blunt traumatic asphyxia’.

In 2019, his parents, Viktor and Irina Yelchin, premiered a documentary about him at the Sundance Film Festival.

Love, Antosha revealed the actor’s struggle with cystic fibrosis (which he had kept hidden) as well as his passion for the arts and closeness with his mum and dad.

Garret Price created the moving film based on Yelchin’s journals and writings as well as interviewing those who knew him well.

Nicolas Cage narrates the film (reading from the young actor’s work) as well as there being interviews with the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, J.J. Abrams, William Dafoe, Simon Pegg and Anya Taylor-Joy.

Love, Antosha has an impressive 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer from critics with a great 92 percent on the Popcornmeter.

Viewers call the film ‘incredible’ and say it will ‘make you value every day’.

While some say it’s held back by ‘occasionally sluggish pacing’, plenty call it a ‘wonderful portrait’ of a ‘remarkable human being’.

One added: “Incredibly inspiring! One of the most emotionally empowering movies I have ever watched!”

Love, Antosha is available to stream on Prime Video now.
