In this day and age, with streaming services being our go-to to home entertainment, DVDs have truly become a thing of the past.
It's weird to think that at one point, they were considered innovative.
For people growing up in the 2000s, DVDs were a treasured part of childhood. Now in 2024, they're practically an artifact.

But this does mean that their value has massively increased, as many have become collectibles.
Some DVDs can even fetch hundreds to millions of pounds - the rarer they are, the more sought after they will be.
And Ryan Toomey, editor of Film Geek, has revealed which ones fetch the most dough.

Talking to The Sun, he said: "Collectors and cinephiles prize DVDs for their nostalgic value, the desire to own a piece of cinema history, and the joy of collecting.
"Rare DVDs become popular auction items because they offer collectors the chance to own something unique and often irreplaceable."
Whether or not a DVD is a director's cut or has been signed by a cast member can drive up prices.
So, which films do best when their DVDs end up on eBay?

This Quentin Tarantino film is a classic, and the collector's edition fetches a nice £150.
Toomey explained: "Particularly because of its unique aesthetic appeal and the enhanced viewing experience it offers via the addition of behind-the-scenes footage and other content."

Given that the cover for this edition is particularly creative, it's easy to see why it would be sought after by collectors.
Toomey said: "The creativity and thought put into the packaging of this edition make it a standout piece for collectors, especially those who appreciate film memorabilia that goes beyond the standard DVD case."
Alien Quadrilogy (25th anniversary edition) - £250

In space, nobody can hear you scream.
But they'll surely hear fans scrambling to get their hands on this 25th anniversary set of the four Alien movies.
Given that it's got 9 DVDs and is presented in the skull of a Xenomorph, it's easy to see why sci-fi fans would be willing to pay the big bucks for this one.
National Treasure (Presidential election) - £173
Nicolas Cage's 2004 Disney hit is a treasure all on its own, with fans searching high and low for this coveted piece.
Toomey explained: "Instead of a normal hardshell DVD case, the DVDs are hidden in a replica of the President’s secret book featured in the sequel, which is packed with fun tidbits and immense detail as shown by one lucky owner."
The Real Ghostbusters Complete Collection - £750
I ain't afraid of no ghosts - but that price does frighten me a little bit.
This DVD set of the animated series is going for an bone-chilling £750.
The most elusive of all is the 2008 version which is housed in a mock firehouse, based on the lair in which the Ghostbusters operated from.
Hardware Wars (30th anniversary edition) - £120
This parody of Star Wars has dedicated fans, even thirty years on from its release.
So it's no wonder that the 30th edition was snatched up instantly upon release.
Star Trek Voyager Boxset (Borg Cube) - £400
Speaking of space, Star Trek also has a devoted fanbase.
DVDs of the franchise always do quite well online, but one fetches a particularly high price.
Toomey said: "You can own an iconic part of the Star Trek series with this highly desirable box set, which emulates the highly stylised cube ships of the enemy Borg, setting you back over £400."
The Exorcist (50th anniversary Deluxe Set) - £200
It's been terrifying audiences for half a century, but trying to find a copy of the 50th anniversary set is a nightmare all on its own.
With only 2,000 copies being made globally and coming in a leather case to resemble a Bible, this set is hard to come by.
Bruce Lee Spectrum Collection (Limited edition) - £800
Bruce Lee is a coveted figure in Hollywood, so it's no wonder that films with his name on sell well.
A whole collection of his films in a silver case would you net you a cool £800.
Spider-Man 1-3 (Japanese Exclusive with Bust Statue set) - £540
And your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man even gets in on some of the DVD fun.
This box-set of the Tobey Maguire movies can go for £540.
Toomey explained: "This rare box and now famous set comes from Japan, consisting of a 6-disc DVD set of Tobey Maguire’s Spiderman franchise alongside two highly detailed busts of Spiderman - one infected by Venom."
If you're wanting to cash in on your old DVD collection, head over to eBay or Amazon to start listing them.
Who knows? You might have a small fortune sitting in your living room cabinet.
