Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reveal extreme lengths it took to get Madonna's permission to use top hit in Deadpool & Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy had to get creative as she 'doesn't licence' the song

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have caused three bad*ss worlds to collide as they collaborate on the new anti-hero flick, Deadpool & Wolverine.

Not only will the pair (who play pretty cool characters) share a screen, but they’ll also be sharing the limelight with…Madonna?

We all know how much the soundtrack to a movie influences its scenes and plot, as well as providing the viewer a gripping experience.

So, it’s no surprise that The Queen of Pop’s hit features in the film.

But even though it was granted permission to be used, it doesn’t mean it was a simple singing deal between agencies in a bland boardroom.

Instead, Reynolds, Jackman and their director Shawn Levy had to fish out their creative caps to be able to convince the popular singer that Like a Prayer was an essential song choice.

The actors and Levy recently shared in an interview with Andy Cohen that they had to take extreme and unusual measures to ask her to license the track.

Levy explained to Cohen: “It did involve a personal visit to Madonna, where we showed Madonna the sequence where ‘Like a Prayer’ would be used.”

Reynolds went on to cut in that Madonna famously doesn’t license that specific song.

He shared: “Also, let’s preface it with the fact that they don’t license — that Madonna doesn’t just license the song, particularly that song.

“It was a big deal to ask for it and certainly a bigger deal to use it. We went over and met with her and sort of showed her how it was being used, and where, and why.”

Levy said that the meeting with the pop sensation felt like the group was ‘meeting royalty’ and Reynolds joked that he had to double check with her team to ask how he should address her.

He said: “Like am I allowed to just say, ‘Madonna?'”

“Like, ‘Hello Madonna, I’m Ryan.'”

Thankfully, they managed to do something right while they were visiting as the artist ultimately granted them permission to use the song.

She did, however, leave them with a parting tip on how to conduct the accompanying scene.

Reynolds explained: “She gave a great note.

“She watched it, and I’m not kidding, [she said], ‘You need to do this.’ And damn it, if she wasn’t like spot on.”

Levy added that they ‘went into a new recording session within 48 hours to do this note’ and that it actually ‘made the sequence better.’

Anyway, the film is set to be a success with another addition to the film that has shocked fans.

X-23, also known as Laura Kinney, is confirmed to be in the flick.

You may remember her character was cloned from Wolverine’s DNA as part of the weapon-X programme which created both Wolverine and Deadpool.

Dafne Keen, who played the role of X-23 in Logan when she was just 11, now returns at 19 to play the role once more in Deadpool and Wolverine.

You’re not going to want to miss this hitting theatres on July 26.
