Ryan Reynolds shocks viewers with savage joke about Hugh Jackman's divorce in Deadpool and Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds shocks viewers with savage joke about Hugh Jackman's divorce in Deadpool and Wolverine

The new Marvel film isn't just brutal with its violence but with Deadpool's jokes about Wolverine

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Deadpool and Wolverine.

Setting a huge new record within its first two minutes, the latest Marvel film landed in cinemas on Thursday (25 July).

After much anticipation, and that huge reveal at Super Bowl, Deadpool and Wolverine sees Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman joining up with plenty of 'wild' cameos.

And while fans might have had whiplash from keeping up with the brutal opening scene to hidden roles from the star’s kids, they were also left shocked by savage jokes at an actor’s expense.

Reynolds appears to deliver a pretty brutal blow towards Jackman about his divorce.

The Aussie actor and Deborra-Lee Furness announced their separation back in September 2023.

The Wolverine star had been with his ex-wife for nearly 30 years, sharing two children together. The pair said they were pursuing ‘individual growth’ in a joint statement.

And it seems it’s been long enough for his mate to poke fun at him on the big screen as the Marvel comical star took full advantage.

Deadpool makes a reference to Wolverine’s yellow costume as he jokingly says: “This is Logan. He’s usually shirtless but he’s let himself go since the divorce.” Ouch.

I mean, it’s worth saying really - were all used to seeing Wolverine showing off his top half, right?

That’s not the only gag the red-cladded hero makes at the expense of Jackman and his character in Deadpool and Wolverine either.

Of course, as the big Marvel fans will now, the Aussie’s Wolverine was killed off back in Logan from 20th Century Fox in 2017 - before Disney got the rights to the iconic franchise.

And Deadpool teases: “Fox killed him but Disney brought him back. They’re going to make him do it till he’s 90.”

Well, to be honest, I don’t think many fans would be complaining about that.

In the first two minutes of Deadpool and Wolverine, it sets a record that’s higher than the entire MCU film series combined.

It’s the franchise’s first ever R-Rated movie but fans still may not have expected it to break pretty much every record related to its age rating within the first scene.

It’s easily is the bloodiest and most brutal of anything in the MCU, surpassing even the non-MCU-canon (kind of) Netflix show Daredevil in brutality.

It features Deadpool carrying out a bloodbath massacre of TVA agents, using the adamantium corpse of Logan’s Wolverine to beat them to death.

If you haven’t seen it yet, yeah, you read that right. And well, it gets more and more brutal - not just because of the divorce jokes.
