Evan Goldberg, longtime producing partner and friend of Seth Rogen, has spoken out about a strict rule he has which prevents sequels to two classic Rogen films.
Goldberg has produced many of Rogen’s most famous movies, working together on This Is The End, Superbad, Sausage Party, Pineapple Express, and now, Rogen’s newest show, The Studio.
The new Apple TV+ series focuses on Rogen as a studio executive newly promoted to a position where he can decide what films do and don’t get made.

This reflects real-life to a certain extent, as Rogen, Goldberg, and producing partner James Weaver all now run their own production company Point Grey Pictures.
The company, founded by Rogen and Goldberg and run by its President, James Weaver, teamed up with Apple TV+ for the new show, which has debuted to a whopping 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.
While the executive Rogen plays in the series might be drooling at the idea of a money making sequel to one of their classic previous films, Weaver and Goldberg are less convinced by the idea.
Speaking exclusively to LADbible alongside Weaver, Goldberg responded to a question about which sequel he would make from Rogen’s comedies if given the chance, saying: “We have a strict rule of no sequel to Superbad or Pineapple Express. Yeah, that's not happening.”

The producer revealed that the sequel they’d do given the choice was This Is the End, stating they have some ‘good ideas’ for a sequel to the apocalyptic comedy.

So, if you wanted them to carry out Jonah Hill’s idea for a Superbad sequel or to get the gang back together (probably sans James Franco) for another Pineapple Express, you’re out of luck.
Later in the interview Goldberg revealed the reason for the rule and, honestly, it’s a pretty understandable one.
He said: “Because if we made a sh*tty Superbad sequel, it would haunt us for the rest of our lives, and we'd never forgive ourselves. But also, some movies want a sequel.”

The producer went on to state that Marvel movies often want a sequel, stating that he wants ‘as many Thor stories as he can get’.
With Superbad though, he said the movie ‘conclusively ends’, adding: “If we made a sequel, it would feel like, why are we doing it?

“Like we just need to answer the question, why are we making the sequel? If we don't have an incredibly good reason to make a sequel, we're not going to.”
The Studio, which both Goldberg and Weaver are executive producers on, releases its first two episodes tomorrow, March 26.
While Rogen’s co-star Catherine O’Hara has spoken about how Rogen’s self professed decision to be a ‘little stoned all the time’ affected filming, it clearly hasn’t had any negative effect.

The show has been met with outstanding reviews, with DiscussingFilm awarding the series a five star review, calling it ‘one of the best TV shows that can be found on streaming today’.
The first two episodes of The Studio release on AppleTV+ tomorrow, Wednesday, March 26.
