After a long, long wait, the first trailer for Superman: Legacy has finally arrived.
Along with it came our first look at a host of characters but most importantly, it brought a reveal of David Corenswet as Clark Kent as he was revealed as the newest Superman.
When it comes to film Clark Kents, Corenswet finds himself amongst esteemed and rare colleagues.

In film, Corenswet is only the fifth actor to pull on the red trunks (no, I’m not counting Nicholas Cage in The Flash), taking over the role from Henry Cavill.
Superman: Legacy follows Creature Commandos in launching DC’s reboot of their universe headed up by James Gunn, the creator of the Guardians of the Galaxy films who is directing the first new outing of Clark Kent.
Joining Corenswet is a fairly all-star cast. The trailer also featured the first look at Skins alumnus Nicholas Hoult as the bald-headed villain Lex Luthor.

Joining him in the cast is Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.

With the tagline ‘Look up’, fans of Superman have been losing it following the release of the trailer.

In a roundtable interview discussing the film, director James Gunn said he was ‘giving up everything in [his] life and soul’ for the film.
Regarding casting Corenswet, Gunn said: “I've always believed that the casting is the most important and that as long as the actor is the best possible actor for that role, that's more important than it is for a name.
“A lot of people auditioned, and the weird thing is I was so crazily nervous about getting Superman ready, on [the] very first day of the tapes coming in, I had seen [David] Corenswet in Pearl. So … I said, ‘Get him on the tape.’

“The very first day came in David's tape and Rachel's tape, and I saw both of those and I went, ‘Oh my God, we're going to be okay.’
“Both of these people are amazing. There were other really good actors for both of those roles, but at the end of the day, it was both of them as individuals.”
Gunn also revealed in various interviews that, following conversations with David Corenswet, he was turned around on the idea of the character having the iconic red trunks, which Zach Snyder’s Superman didn’t go for.
Gunn said: “We were trying on all these different versions, and we screened tested with trunks and no trunks.

“One of the things David said is that Superman wants kids to not be afraid of him.
“He’s incredibly powerful and could be considered scary. He wants people to like him. He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity.
“So, he dresses like a professional wrestler. He dresses in a way that makes people unafraid of him, that shows that hope and shows that positivity.
“That really clicked in for me.”
