Fans have one complaint after Disney announces Toy Story 5 with all main characters returning

Fans have one complaint after Disney announces Toy Story 5 with all main characters returning

Everyone noticed the same thing with the first teaser image from Toy Story 5 at D23

Following the announcement of Toy Story 5, fans of the franchise have all seemed to have the same question about the characters.

This year's D23 expo took place in California, USA, last night (9 August), as Disney laid out its entertainment plan for the next few years.

Pixar came out and announced that a third Incredibles movie was currently in the works, following up on the success of the first film and its sequel, which are 14 years apart in release.

As well as this, Frozen 3 has been slated for release in 2027, with a fourth film being teased by the company as they may need two films to answer the questions brought about by the sequel.

However, one of the biggest announcements of the expo was no doubt that Toy Story 5 is on the way back to our screens, as the first teaser image from the film was released, revealing the main focus of the Pixar movie.

It was confirmed that the fifth instalment of the franchise will see the toys 'go head to head with what kids are obsessed with today': electronics.

The movie will focus on the idea of 'toy meets tech', as the poster shows the toys looking sadly at a child sitting on their bed, using their tablet instead of playing with the toys for entertainment.

However, fans were quick to clock on to one detail of the poster, which makes little sense after the ending of Toy Story 4.

Everyone is a bit confused over why Woody is back with his friends, after he decided to leave the other toys to be with his beloved Little Bo Peep at the end of the previous film.

You see, Toy Story 4 saw Woody struggling to fit in with new owner Bonnie, and reuniting with his lost love Bo Peep.

When he's offered the chance to return to Bonnie at the end of the movie, he decides to stay with Bo Peep instead and embrace the freedom of being a Lost Toy.

As far as Tom Hanks was concerned, Toy Story 4 was the last time he'd be playing the character.

He told IGN at the time: "When we ended up recording the very last line, I had to come to [the] realisation - it was like 'oh, is that the last line?' They all said 'that’s it.'

"And when it came to pass, I felt as though I was on the other side of a river waving to everybody that I had left back in the old country. It was pretty profound."

Erm, that may have been a false alarm, Tom.

Social media users were certainly confused by Woody's return.

Taking to X, one user said: "So I guess Woody just comes back immediately and Toy Story 4’s ending meant absolutely NOTHING lol"

A second posted: "So they’re just casually bringing back Woody like nothing happened after emotionally damaging us on Toy Story 4."

More fans shared their discontent online, as a different user posted: "Why is Woody back lmfao.

"Wasn't the premise of the 4th movie that Woody was moving on from being a child's toy to live a life with Bo?"

We'll just have to wait and see how Woody's return is explained in the new movie, which is set for release in summer 2026.
