Huge GTA 6 blow to millions of gamers wanting to buy the game this autumn

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to sell millions of copies on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S when it is released in the autumn of 2025

The bosses behind Grand Theft Auto VI have issued a brutal blow to millions of gamers who might have been looking forward to playing the next franchise instalment when it is released in the autumn of 2025.

February has seen GTA 6's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, re-confirm that the Rockstar product will be heading to shelves in the fall of this year.

No date has been set, but the company saying for the second time in six months that we can expect it in either September, October, or November is music to the ears of those chomping at the bit to buy the product, with fear growing among the gaming community that it was going to be delayed until 2026.

As of right now, a delay has been avoided, and with Take-Two twice saying autumn is on the cards, a push back at this stage would be a major shock and a sign that something critical in game development has gone wrong.

The problem now, though, is exactly who can buy the game to play when it's finally released this year.

Owners of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S need not worry, with it being released to both platforms as a priority. Sadly, millions without these consoles are in trouble.

It is after Take-Two boss, Strauss Zelnick, spoke to IGN about how Take-Two release games across its brands - and now Rockstar fits in to that.

The comments were made when talking about Take-Two game Civilization 7, which is created by the company's subsidiary businesses Firaxis Games and 2K.

"So with Civilization 7 it's available on console and PC and Switch right away," Zelnick explained.

"With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."

Zelnick is very much referring to Rockstar's history of prioritising premium consoles first and PC versions, and less powerful consoles, later.

Let's look back at GTA 5. Released in September 2013 to the PS3 and Xbox 360, it was only released to the PC in April 2015.

It was never released on the Nintendo Switch, despite attempts by modders to bring it over to the console.

But Zelnick gave PC gamers more hope than with previous releases. He also hinted at it being ported to the next generation of consoles, as GTA 5 was for the PS4 and Xbox One.

He added: "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue. Of course, there will be a new console generation."

Zelnick continued: "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles.

"And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others.

"So I'm not concerned about console sales falling. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."
