Terrifier 2, otherwise known as the ‘splatter slasher’ film causing audiences to vomit, has now been submitted for an Oscar consideration to troll the Academy.
While the low-budget horror flick has emerged as a dark horse at the box office, garnering USD $7.9 million (AUD $12.4m or £6.9m), Terrifier 2 is looking to gain critical acclaim.
The film’s production company, Bloody Disgusting, issued a statement announcing that they had submitted the controversial feature for consideration for an Academy Award.
They wrote: "The most vomit-inducing movie since The Exorcist with the most shocking effects sequence since An American Werewolf in London is coming for the Academy Awards!

"As you may have heard, the same fans who made Damien Leone‘s Terrifier 2 a box office hit this Halloween season are demanding Oscar recognition for the little indie that could."
They told fans to tag the Academy on Twitter to take part in the ‘utterly not serious’ fan-driven Oscar campaign.
They added: "Let’s make some more noise. Let’s see how many members of the Academy we can get to pay attention to a horror movie that precisely none of them would ever watch on their own."
Who knows? The flick could even take home an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, especially considering the audience’s strong visceral reaction.

Bloody Disgusting said this was purely just to troll the members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
"The thought of having members of the Academy endure an extreme unrated horror movie that they would otherwise consider beneath them? That’s just too hilarious of an opportunity to pass up," they wrote.
Terrifier 2 picks up a year after the first film, when Art the Clown is resurrected thanks to a demonic entity in the form of a little girl.
Art continues terrorising teenager Sienna Shaw and her younger brother on the night of Halloween.

Following the film’s release, many took to Twitter, sharing that people have been passing out and vomiting in cinemas due to its extreme bloody violence and gore.
One person wrote: "Watching #Terrifier2 my friend just threw up and then passed out. I’ve counted five walk outs so far. I’m loving it."

Another said: "I just saw it here in Chicago. 2 walk outs. Lots of screaming… someone almost threw up during the BEDROOM scene. Other then that we all loved it. Stay for the mid credit scene too."
While a third shared: "Just saw Terrifier 2. It was an amazing gory mess. The guy behind me passed out cold n crashed into my chair, another guy left because he didn’t feel good, I overheard him say and walking out theatre door I heard a guy puking hard & loud in the bathroom. #Terrifier2 @damienleone."
However, author Stephen King praised the film, calling it a salute to ‘old school’ horror.
I mean, who needs an Oscar, when the King of Horror himself provides his tick of approval?
