Hunter Biden, second son of President Joe Biden, has been the source of much public and secular scrutiny in recent years.
A high-profile political and business figure, Hunter Biden has been a political lobbyist and hedge fund manager for over 15 years, both of which have been criticised for being products of nepotism.
However, it is not his political or economic power which has drawn the most ire but his relations in both Ukraine and China. Following leaks of private negotiations between Biden (Hunter, not Joe) and a Chinese billionaire, the Justice Department began to investigate his finances. The negotiations enumerated “introductions” between the aforementioned billionaire and unspecified individuals according to BBC News. The situation was only worsened by previous relations with an adviser from Ukraine based energy company Burisma thanked Hunter Biden for introducing them to his father in 2015.

More recently though, it is Hunter Biden’s “laptop-gate” which has been causing a stir. In 2019, an abandoned laptop in a Delaware computer store was discovered to contain controversial and private documents concerning Hunter Biden. The documents put Joe Biden’s presidential campaign in jeopardy as the Trump administration attempted to unveil a scandal in the weeks leading up to the election.
Over the past couple of days, the Colorado Springs Gazette reports, 168,000 deleted files have been recovered from Biden’s laptop, reigniting interest in the case.
With regards to his tumultuous past, many are left wondering exactly how much Hunter Biden is worth.

This figure may seem shockingly low for such a prominent businessman and political lobbyist, especially given the wealth intrinsic to much of US politics. Despite earning $11 million (£8.8 million) between 2013 and 2018, as reported by NBC News, Hunter Biden has spent ludicrously whilst earning, finding himself in $475,000 (£376,000) of debt before his laptop controversy occurred.
He has spent his earnings on a series of toys including a boat, a Porsche and two jeeps. These expenditures were not ameliorated by his battle with drug addiction and the multiple affairs he has had, including one with his brother’s widow. In his autobiography, Biden admits that the money from Burisma “turned into a major enabler” during his slip into drug addiction.
Biden now lives in a rented house and, according to The Guardian, the US Secret Service is paying $30,000 (£23,900) a month to rent a nearby mansion from which they can protect him.
