Johnny Depp appears to have confirmed that he will not be returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
A representative for Depp has denied the rumours flying around that the actor will be making a comeback as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Describing the rumours of Depp's comeback as Captain Jack as 'made up', it seems as though the actor is done with the Pirates franchise which he helmed for five movies, E! Online reports.

The rumours first appeared in PopTopic and claimed that the actor had been offered around $301 million to make a comeback.
This seemed to be a reference to a moment in Depp's defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, where he said he wouldn't return even if he was offered $300 million and a million alpacas.
In any event, such an amount would be hugely unrealistic considering it would be more than the entire budget to make a Pirates movie.

Depp last played Jack Sparrow in 2017 for Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge, and has become the face of the blockbuster franchise.
However, there are two more Pirates movies in the works and the 59-year-old actor is attached to neither of them.
The first is the planned sixth instalment, though that is currently swirling around in limbo without Depp as there is little concrete information about the direction the movie will go in without him.
It was announced by The Hollywood Reporter back in 2020 that there is also supposed to be a spin-off movie starring Margot Robbie in the works, though since then details have been few and far between.

Both movies seem to be stuck in stasis and it seems as though neither of them will star Depp, who appears to be quite clear that he doesn't plan on making a comeback as Captain Jack.
There is an online petition that was set up by fans calling for his return to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, which has reached more than 875,000 signatures, but that's unlikely to persuade him to change his stance.
An image of the actor's face was even projected onto Disneyland Paris after his trial verdict, with Depp claiming he lost out on the chance to play Captain Jack again due to the accusations against him.

One role Depp will likely be returning to is that of participant in the defamation trial between himself and ex-wife Heard.
Lawyers for both parties failed to reach a settlement after he was ordered to pay her $2 million in damages and she was ordered to pay him $10 million.
Heard's legal team has indicated she is likely to appeal the verdict, meaning we could see her and Depp back in the courtroom before too long.
