Ben Affleck has finally opened up about what led him to walk away from the Batman franchise.
You'd think being the Caped Crusader would be an awesome gig that would not only bring in millions of dollars but also an army of fans all over the world.
However, the Oscar-winner said the reality of playing Gotham's hero was far from enjoyable and he felt it was time to hang up the cape.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly alongside Matt Damon, Affleck said playing Batman as part of the Justice League wasn't what he expected.
"I had a really nadir experience around Justice League for a lot of different reasons," Affleck told Damon.
"Not blaming anybody, there's a lot of things that happened. But really what it was is that I wasn't happy.
"I didn't like being there.
"I didn't think it was interesting. and then some really shitty things, awful things happened. But that's when I was like, I'm not going to do this anymore."
Den of Geek notes how at the time of filming Justice League there was a hell of a lot going on in Affleck's personal life, as well as in the life of director Zack Snyder.
When it came time to Ben deciding whether he should continue making Batman films or if he should walk away, he revealed a long-time pal helped him make his decision.
"In fact, I talked to you [Matt Damon] about it and you were a principal influence in that decision," he explained to Entertainment Weekly.
"I want to do the things that would bring me joy. Then we went and did Last Duel, and I had fun every day on this movie. I wasn't the star, I wasn't likable. I was a villain.
"I wasn't all the things I thought I was supposed to be when I started out and yet it was a wonderful experience. And it was all just stuff that came along that I wasn't chasing."
Affleck has played Batman in five films, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Justice League, Zack Snyder's Justice League, and the upcoming film The Flash.
Robert Pattinson has been cast in an upcoming remake of the iconic superhero, called The Batman, which is due to hit theatres in March this year.
