Despite residing in Los Angeles, non binary artist G Flip has always stayed true to their Australian roots. The Melbourne-born artist is set to kick off the first leg of their international tour in California, but not without making a pit stop to Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal for a cheeky show with Pepsi.
On Wednesday evening, three Australian icons set the scene for Pepsi’s brand refresh. To ring in the new era, G Flip performed in front of the Sydney Opera House, and models wearing designs by Jackson Cowden walked the stage.
The futuristic catwalk featured plenty of Pepsi blue and a very “stoked” G Flip, who performed their tracks “Gay 4 You”, “Be Your Man” and “Worst Person Alive”. They also threw a rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” into the setlist for good measure.

We caught up with G Flip after their pre-show soundcheck to chat about the collaboration and a potential directing opportunity.
While waiting for their own rehearsal that afternoon, G Flip was treated to an impromptu sneak peek of the show.
Of the capsule collection, G Flip has decided “the puffer jacket hoodie” is their favourite. Why?

“Because it looked really cosy, and I like to be comfortable too,” they said. “Also I’m pretty jet lagged right now and it looks like a cute sleeping bag kind of vibe as well.”
G Flip also spoke very highly of the collection’s creator. At just 23 years old, Jackson Cowden used digital fashion design to create not only a capsule of garments, but a performance that included mixed mediums (dance, animation, music) to engage the packed crowd.
“I met Jackson [earlier] — such a legend and so talented and the looks are really cool,” G Flip raved.

As for the next collab, we asked G Flip about which Australian artists they’d rope into creating a new Pepsi Gladiator ad.
“There’s me, Troye Sivan, Kylie Minogue and then maybe someone like Genesis Owusu,” they told LadBible. “It would be epic. It would be very cool.”
G Flip’s concept for the potential campaign is a work in progress but the premise sounds… lit.
“There’d be a volcano involved and lava — but we’re invincible to the lava. There’s a boat, there’s all these cheerleaders and then there’s all these ripped guys. It’s intense and then there’s also heaps of fireworks. And pyro, heaps of pyro,” they said with a laugh.

“I think [for the] next Pepsi commercial, definitely hire me because obviously I’ve got really good ideas. I’m into it.”
