Mackenzie Shirilla is the focus of new Netflix true crime documentary The Crash after being convicted of intentionally killing her boyfriend and a friend in a high-speed car crash.
The 17-year-old high school student was dating her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, 20, for around four years, when she got behind the wheel of her 2018 Toyota Camry in the early morning hours of 31 July 2022.
She then drove the car into the brick Plidco Building in Strongsville, Ohio at upwards of 100 mph.
Shirilla was seriously injured while Russo and his friend Davion Flanagan were declared dead at the scene.

The trial in 2023 found that Shirilla was guilty of all 12 charges against her, including murder, aggravated vehicular homicide, felonious assault and drug possession.
“She had a mission, and she executed it with precision. The decision was death,” Judge Nancy Margaret Russo said.
“Her actions were controlled, methodical, deliberate, intentional and purposeful. This was not reckless driving. This was murder.”
Why did Mackenzie Shirilla do it?

Prosecutors proved that Shirilla intentionally crashed her car as a premeditated murder plot driven by a highly toxic, volatile relationship with her boyfriend.
Shirilla was 'on a mission' to kill Russo because their relationship had deteriorated and he had threatened to break up with her.
Investigators said she chose to orchestrate the fatal crash to prevent Russo from leaving her under the mindset that if she could not have him, no one would
Mackenzie Shirilla's chilling tribute

After the crash, Shrilla wrote on Russo's obituary page that he was 'the last person to deserve this'.
"You had such a perfect life ahead of you," she said alongside photos together.
The post read: “I love you Dom you are my soulmate I won’t never forget the memories we made together you made me the girl I am today and you were just an amazing bright soul.”
“I miss your laugh your perfect smile. I feel your energy around me everyday i just wish it was physical. God u are the last person to deserve this you had such a perfect life ahead of you... i wish i told you all this more. Please wait for me.”
Where is Mackenzie Shirilla now?

Shirilla is currently serving 15 years to life in prison at Ohio Reformatory for Women.
“Mackenzie, going to prison because you did this, be thankful you’re still alive and have a future, whatever that may be,” Christine Russo, her boyfriend's mother, previously told the court.
“Dom and Davion were robbed of their futures, their hopes and their dreams. Mackenzie showed no mercy on Dominic, nor did she on Davion. Only God at this time can have mercy on her soul.”
The Crash is available to watch on Netflix now.
